Assisted living communities provide a sense of community as well as individualized help. Assisted living communities usually provide chances for social activity, help with appointments and transit, and care supervision. In select instances, communities may provide hospice, nursing care, or dementia care. Virginia maintains specific statutes associated with this kind of community. The Virginia Department of Social Services regulates this community type. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) waiver program–Virginia Alzheimer s Assisted Living. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include The community must have a medication management plan that is reviewed and approved by the Department., Residents may self-administer medications if they are capable, and Medications may be administered by licensed individuals or by medication aides . This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include Assessing residents for whom restraints are in us, Monitoring the community s medication management plan and infection control plans, periodic health care and oversight through a licensed health care professionall, and Meet the service plan objectives. Staff members obtain education in a variety of subjects. These areas include emergency and disaster plans, including those for evacuating residents., hand-washing techniques, standard precautions, and infection risk reduction behavior, first-aid and cpr training, and Residents rights and responsibilities. There is a maximum occupancy of 2 residents per room. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents.
