Assisted living communities offer healthcare, supervision, and recreational activities to individuals who are on average 65 years of age or older. Assisted living communities commonly provide supervision of care, outings for social activity, and assistance with appointments and transit. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer skilled nursing, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. Oklahoma has a number of provisions associated with this type of community. Department of Health, Protective Health Services, Long-term Care Services supervises this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These include social activities, housekeeping, assistance with cognitive orientation, and intermittent nursing care. Public assistance is available through the Medicaid 1915(c) Advantage Program, the Sooner Services Program, and the My Life My Choice Program. Staff must receive training in a variety of subjects. These areas include first-aid, residents’ specific needs, and cpr. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 2. In total, there can be no more than 2 residents to a room. There must be one toilet for every 4 residents and one bath or shower for every 4 residents. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include staff must be trained in food preparation, must provide three meals a day, and must use a licensed dietician to develop diet plan.
