Assisted living facilities provide social interaction, care, and oversight to persons around 65 years of age or older. Assisted living facilities commonly offer support with the activities of daily life, help with appointments and transportation, and care supervision. Under certain circumstances, facilities may provide "aging in place", dementia care, or skilled nursing care. The state of Nebraska has specific statutes associated with this type of facility. Nebraska Division of Public Health, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Licensure and Regulation governs this type of facility. There must be one bath or shower for every 8 residents and one toilet for every 6 residents. This type of facility is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There is a maximum occupancy of 4 residents per room. Staff members obtain training in a variety of subjects. These include: social services, financial management, resident care/services, and gerontology. Public assistance is available through Government assistance is covered through two Medicaid 1915(c) waiver programs..This type of facility is required to offer a number of services. These include behavioral management, assistance with Adls, case management, and housekeeping/laundry. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as services provided by the facility: how often, when and by who and services for residents with special needs. This facility has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must offer written menus based on federal nutrition standards, provide adequate food services, and monitor for nutritional problems on specified weight changes.
