Residents may be kept under supervision and assessment. In some instances, communities may offer respite, dementia care, or “aging in place”. The Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services, Division of Regulation and Licensure, Section for Long-Term Care Regulation supervises this community type. These provisions include Injections may be administered only by a physician or licensed nurse, a physician, pharmacist, or registered nurse (RN) must review the medication regimen of each resident every other month, and self-administer prescription and nonprescription medications if a licensed health provider approves. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with activities of daily living , protective oversight, assistance with administration of medications, and nursing services. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as an individualized service plan must be developed that describes the services to be provided to meet the resident’s needs, complete screening prior to admission to determine whether an applicant is eligible to be admitted, authorized staff person and a physician must conduct a physical exam to document the individual’s current medical status and write any special orders regarding care and needed procedures, and an individualized evacuation plan must be developed for residents who require more than minimal assistance to evacuate. Staff members receive training in a variety of areas. These include: instruction regarding person-centered care and the social model of care, orientation appropriate to job function and responsibilities, 24 hours of additional training on interview skills, and 24 hours of additional training on assessment on cognitive ability. Public assistance is available through the Medicaid State Plan Personal Care authority. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day.
