Assisted living facilities arrange organized living communities and health care to your loved one who might require help with things such as cooking meals or dressing. Assisted living facilities frequently offer support with daily activities, help with transportation and appointments, and outings for social activity. In select situations, facilities may offer skilled nursing care, hospice, or continuing care. In Massachusetts, the annual median cost for an assisted living facility is around $67,680 . The state of Massachusetts maintains a number of provisions associated with this kind of facility. The Executive Office of Elder Affairs licenses this type of facility. This facility type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include management of self-administered medications, opening containers and pre-packaged medications, and reminding residents to take medications. This facility has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include facilities must provide up to three regularly scheduled meals daily, a qualified dietitian must review the residence's dietary plans at least every 6 months, facilities must use daily recommended dietary allowances as established by the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Research Council of the National Academy of Sciences, and qualified dietitian must counsel residents regarding therapeutic diets and other dietary issues. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver program.This type of facility is required to offer a number of services. These include timely assistance with urgent or emergency needs, assistance with activities of daily living , management of self-administered prescription or over-the-counter medications, and assistance with nstrumental activities of daily living. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This type of facility is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment of the individual's needs and preferences, assessment of allergies and dietary needs, assessment of residents current diagnoses and medical history, and assessment of residents ability to manage medications. Staff members obtain education in a number of areas. These areas include management of self-administered medications, communication skills, financial exploitation, and philosophy of independent living.
