Assisted living communities arrange organized living communities and assistance to seniors who might need help with cooking or taking medication. The types of service offered often include aid with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. In certain situations, communities may offer “aging in place”, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois maintains a number of stipulations associated with this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health governs this community type. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, A comprehensive assessment, assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition, and provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety. Staff members receive education in a number of subjects. These areas include job responsibilities and limitations, neglect prevention, philosophy and goals, and hygiene. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include security, non-medical services, medication administration, and supervision of self-administered medications. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include supervision of self-administered medications, only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications, and reading the medication label to residents.
