Assisted living communities offer social opportunities, healthcare, and supervision to persons who are around 65 years of age or older. Services provided often involve support with the activities of daily life. Occupants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. In select cases, communities may offer nursing care, continuing care, or dementia care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois maintains a number of stipulations related to this type of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health governs this type of community. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication reminders, documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, and only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Staff members receive training in a variety of areas. These include: disaster procedures, independence, self-determination, and hygiene. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include supervision of self-administered medications, laundry, medication administration, and emergency response systems. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as A comprehensive assessment, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition.
