Assisted living communities commonly offer assistance with appointments and transit, care supervision, and chances for social activity. These include laundry, medication reminders, security, and medication administration. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications, supervision of self-administered medications, and medication reminders. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, and provider must ensure that the resident and the resident’s representative, if any, are informed of the potential consequences of activities that the provider considers to pose risks to health and/or safety. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program.
