Assisted living communities offer apartment style housing and social events as well as individualized assistance. The types of service offered often include aid with the activities of daily life. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. In some situations, communities may provide dementia care, respite, or continuing care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . Illinois has specific rules related to this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health licenses this type of community. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s physical condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, A comprehensive assessment, and evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include security, non-medical services, housekeeping, and assistance with activities of daily living. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. In total, there can be no more than 1 residents to a room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include only a licensed health care professionall employed by the community may administer medications, reading the medication label to residents, and observing the resident. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Staff members receive training in a number of fields. These include: choice, promotion of dignity, infection control, and internal policies.
