Assisted living communities offer organized living communities and health care to your loved one who may need help with things such as self-administering medication or mobility. Services offered often include support with activities of daily living. Occupants may be kept under observation and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide skilled nursing care, respite, or dementia care. In Illinois, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $50,040 . The state of Illinois maintains a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. The Illinois Department of Public Health governs this type of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include emergency response systems, laundry, security, and assistance with activities of daily living. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as evaluation of a prospective resident’s psychosocial condition, evaluation of a prospective resident’s cognitive condition, A comprehensive assessment, and assessment must be updated by a physician annually or upon a significant change in condition. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There is a maximum occupancy of 1 residents per room. Public assistance is available through A Medicaid 1915(c) waiver called the Supported Living Program and a 1915(b) waiver called the Managed Long-Term Services and Supports program. Staff are required to obtain education in a number of fields. These include: residents’ need and service plans, reporting, abuse, and resident rights. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include documenting whether or not the resident took the medication, observing the resident, and supervision of self-administered medications.
