Assisted living communities administer care, supervision, and recreational activities to persons around 65 years old. Services provided often include help with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer respite, nursing, or hospice. In Georgia, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $135,450 . Georgia maintains a number of provisions related to this type of community. The Department of Community Health licenses assisted living communities and personal care homes licenses this community type. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as assessment to determine the resident’s physical care needs, assessment to determine the resident’s medical needs, A written care plan must document the assessment findings, and personal preferences relative to care needs. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include the provision of assisted self-preservation, administration of medications by a certified medication aide, assisted living care, and described as personal services. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 25. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include assisting with an Epi pen, assisting residents with storage of medications, and applying topical medications. Public assistance is available through 1915(c) Medicaid Waiver programs- ) the Community Care Services Program is managed by the Department of Community Health’s Division of Medical Assistance Plans and partners with the Division of Aging Services and the Service Options Using Resources in a Community Environment (SOURCE) program. Staff members receive training in a variety of areas. These include: assistance with medications, provision of resident care that is individualized and helpful, proper food preparation, and attendance policies. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include at least three meals, one nutritious snack, and any therapeutic diets ordered by a resident’s health care provider must be provided each day.
