Assisted living communities offer oversight, social events, and personal care to individuals around 65 years of age or older. Services provided often include help with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and assessment. In select situations, communities may offer Alzheimer’s care, skilled nursing, or continuing care. In Florida, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 42,000. The state of Florida has a number of provisions associated with this type of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation supervises this type of community. Staff members obtain education in a number of areas. These areas include community emergency procedures, resident behavior and needs, 26 hours of training plus a competency test, and resident rights. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include personal care services, assistance with self-administration of medications, nursing services, and assistance with activities of daily living . This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as medical examination report, communities must document such assessment, community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community , and monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician . This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must be adapted to residents’ food habits, the community must provide therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident’s health care provider for residents who require special diets, meals must be adapted to residents preferences, and meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities . This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include licensed nursing staff may administer medications, unlicensed staff may assist residents with self-administration, and reading the label.
