Assisted Living

Assisted living communities arrange organized living communities and aid to people who may need support with self-administering medication or dressing. Services offered often involve help with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide Alzheimer’s care, continuing care, or nursing. In Florida, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 42,000. Florida maintains specific regulations associated with this type of community. The Bureau of Health community Regulation supervises this type of community. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as medical examination report, communities must document such assessment, monthly nursing assessment of resident as ordered by physician , and community must document any substantial changes in a resident’s status which may necessitate relocation to a more specialized community . Staff must receive training in a variety of fields. These areas include resident behavior and needs, resident rights, community emergency procedures, and reporting incidents. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include the community must provide a variety of regular meals that meet the nutritional needs of residents, meals must be adapted to residents preferences, meals must be adapted to residents physical abilities , and the community must provide therapeutic diets as ordered by the resident’s health care provider for residents who require special diets. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 1. Public assistance is available through 1915(b)(c) MLTC program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include unlicensed staff may assist residents with self-administration, reading the label, and placing an oral dosage in the resident’s hand. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with self-administration of medications, nursing services, assistance with activities of daily living , and personal care services.
