I Would Use Them Again

It was pretty difficult because of the pandemic and Covid. Access was very limited. Somebody who might be considering Brookdale Fort Walton Beach in the future hopefully won't have to deal with the same things I had to deal with regarding visitation. You had to call and make an appointment, so you had to plan around their ability to provide you access, which was very limited. They had designated meeting areas, and you had to stay 6 feet apart. So they were trying to meet the CDC guidelines, but it was still very awkward considering this was your family member. It was relatively clean, just okay, not exceptional. I felt the same way about the staff, just okay, not exceptional. But my loved one has had a huge positive upswing in functioning having been there in a stable environment with three meals a day provided. She needed that regimentation and people watching over her and taking care of her. She fell a few times while she was there and had immediate access to support, which was important.

For Memory Care Residents Only

I would tell others it depends on the potential resident's health conditions. The population is 90/10 memory care residents vs. non-memory care. The staff expect non-memory care residents to enjoy their time there since most of the residents are memory care. The food wasn't good and cut up very small, similar to feeding a child. The staff would treat my loved one like a memory care resident, even though they weren't. I've brought my concerns up to the Supervisor of the Directors for them to know.

Good experience with Brookdale

It is hard right now because we are not allowed inside the facility or in her room. I do understand why and I believe she is in a safe environment, but it can be difficult. With the food, I think they need to provide options and more variety. I do like that they have a 24 hour nursing staff at the facility, it is a big plus and is one of the main reasons we chose them over others we looked into.

Good job

We chose Brookdale Fort Walton Beach because it was close to our house and when you walked in it wasn't depressing. She is in a studio and it is plenty of room for her needs. The staff members and care here has been great. The only issue we have had is the price has increased quite a bit since she has moved in here. Overall, I would recommend if you can afford it, it is expensive for what you get.

my review of brookdale

The community needs to be checking regularly to see if the residents are groomed properly and that rooms are cleaned. the room sizes were very good, and my loved one said the food was good. I would recommend this community.

Very caring staff, established building. The two bedroom unit had two seperate bedroom doors allowing individual privacy for my mom & dad. Shared bathroom with walkin shower. I'm looking for housing closer to Crestview.

Not As Inviiting As Others

This community was not as inviting to the eye as others we had toured. It was an older community that is in desperate need of a refurbish. The carpet needs to be replaced and everything needs a good paint job to make it brighter and more inviting. The staff was friendly and very nice.

High Hopes

We have mom here at Brookdale Fort Walton Beach for a respite stay in the hopes that this will become her permanent home. We like the fact that she can stay here through all of her care needs all the way through to hospice. Mom can be difficult at times and the staff is trying their best and to do as much as they can to make her comfortable. I have to communicate with them long distance and they try to accommodate my suggestions of improving my mom's acclimating to her new surroundings. They do offer activities, but at this point in time my mom is doing a sit-in and refusing to participate. This experience is definitely a work in process.

Decent Tour

We had a decent tour of this community. However from what we were shown the community could use some updating. The staff we met was friendly, and polite. It was a good experience, but this was not the right fit for my mother in law.

Not Enough Information

When I went over that day and the person I had an appointment with was not there. One of the girls that work there gave me a little information.I didn't get anything from them and I was hoping I would. She was a sweet girl but didn't have the information I needed.
