Assisted living communities offer organized social interaction and apartment style housing as well as individual care. Services offered often involve support with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide skilled nursing care, hospice, or dementia care. The Department of Social Services, Community Care Licensing Division certifies this type of community. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. These provisions include assistance with self-administration of medications and medication administration. Staff are required to receive training in a number of fields. Public assistance is available through The state’s Medicaid 1915(c) Assisted Living Waiver program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must comply with diet prescribed by physicians, meals must include an appropriate variety of foods, planned in consideration of cultural and religious backgrounds , meals must comply with residents’ dietary preference, and the total daily diet must meet the recommended dietary allowances of the National Academy of Sciences Food and Nutrition Board.
