This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must meet the Dietary Reference Intakes of the Food and Nutrition Board of the National Research Council, National Academy of Sciences, Snacks and beverages must be available throughout the day and after the evening meal, communities must serve daily at least three meals, and Alternate food selections must be available for residents on medically prescribed diets. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include self-administration of medication if capable. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 2. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to make sure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as plan of care developed by the community in cooperation with the resident and, if appropriate, their representative and medical examination by a physician prior to admission.
