Arts, Culture, Entertainment, and Recreation

Richmond is the capital of Virginia and one of the oldest states in the Union. The city is filled with a wide variety of historical and cultural opportunities ranging from colonial history to contemporary art. This is why living in Richmond, VA is a great option for any active senior. One of the most historically significant locations in Virginia is St. John’s Church, where Founding Father Patrick Henry famously decried “Give me liberty or give me death.” The American Civil War Museum is another important historical location which was once the home of Confederate President Jefferson Davis and which houses a large archive of information on the American Civil War.

The Lewis Ginter Botanical Garden offers a lovely stroll through its vast array of flora housed in its domed conservatory. The estate also has a carriage museum and a native wildlife exhibit. Richmond has limited options for public transit. Bus routes are operated by the Greater Richmond Transit Company which offers reduced fares for seniors and Medicare customers.
