Wilmington is considered very friendly to members of the LGBTQ+ community. This means that members of the community are accepted by the general public and can actively participate in public life without fear of bigotry.
Located on the banks of both the Delaware and Christinia Rivers, many seniors find living in Wilmington to be pleasant and relaxing. The Downtown area is filled with lots of local history such as the DuPont Building which was built in the 20th century, the 1802 DuPont gunpowder works and the DuPont family’s Georgian-style home. The Hagley Museum showcases much of the DuPont family’s history in the city. The Old Swedes Church located between the Christina River and Brandywine Creek was built in 1698 and offers a glimpse into the past. Brandywine Park is located to the north of the city and has many walking paths and a zoo. The Delaware Art Museum was founded in 1902 and has a collection of more than 12,000 objects as well as a 9-acre sculpture park.

Although it may be difficult to get around the city without a car, public transportation is available in certain parts of the city such as Downtown. The bus system, the Delaware Administration for Regional Transit also known as DART First State marks there bus stops with blue and white signs throughout the city.
