Extremely friendly and helpful. I picked this community because of the location and price. Close to doctor, cardiologist and retinal specialty institute.

NOT IMPRESSED

The room was smaller then a hospital room. It was ground level and had outer wall flood damage coming thru were the noisy motel type a/c-heater is mounted in window. They said the room would be done with new flooring, paint and bathroom hand rails but needed his upfront money first to get started.

Very Disappointing

Many promises of good care, however, did not deliver. My relative fell so many times in the first weeks. When contacting the nursing staff there was no answer of the phone. Trying to find out about a loved one will be frustrating. I heard that agency staff was there, but, didn't realize that the care would be so negatively affected by those workers. This facility has serious staffing issues.

My worst nightmare at Elmcroft

I found the staff to attentive the first couple of weeks and activities for the dementia residents were there. After the first couple of weeks, the truth came out. There were no activities at the facility for weeks at a time. CNAs complained openly about the residents. Poor nursing leadership. Short staffed and the LPNs and CNAs openly complained about having too much to do. Staff complained openly about their pay. I was excited that the facility was potentially just what I was looking for but soon found that it was not any different from the rest of the facilities that had underpaid and overworked staff. There were nights when there was only 1 LPN on the entire first floor. Meds were not always delivered appropriately. Finance office is totally disorganized - in the 3 months I was there my bill was never correct.

Would not recommend, Not What We Expected, and Needs Improvements

Much was promised, not delivered. First of all, housekeeping was supposed to clean mom's place every other week. I saw zero evidence of that. The food was passable, but having to call for every single meal and sit through a two minute instructional on how to order was ridiculous. The promised activities never materialized. We were told that mom would be paired up with a buddy who had been there a while to show her around and go with her to activities. That never happened. We were told there was transportation to Dr appts, but could never get a real person to talk to and arrange it. The activity calendar is full, but most of them are for the assisted living, not the independent living. The ones that are for independent living occur in different buildings and it is hard to tell where to go or sign up. The activities director never returned my phone calls until I complained to the facility director. Then she was very rude to me. The maintenance man was also less than patient with my mom. I can't speak to the assisted living, but if you are in the independent living you might as well rent an apt for half the price bc you are truly on your own.

Beware

They provide no assistance in their assisted living. Don't put anyone you care about there. I had my mom signed up for about a month and she ended up staying a little over a week. She had a fall and because of that she had to go to the hospital. I do think that incident could’ve been 100% prevented by the community. I put her there because I was going out of town for my own care. They called my sister when it happened, I got notified about an hour after that. They did give me the remainder of my money back and I am satisfied with the amount. But our family never got an apology or calls to see how she was doing. It started the first day. I decided to move her in two days before I left town to make sure she was settled. I came back the next day and she was completely bleary eyed. I asked her what was wrong and she replied that she couldn’t turn her TV off all night. They never gave her the remote and only one person came to check on her throughout the night. So, she was stuck with a blaring TV that she couldn’t shut off. This was a satellite TV, so it required two remotes. One to change the channels and the other for volume and powering on and off. She had the channel one, but they never gave her the one that she really needed - even after they promised and we asked for hours. It never happened. They also never gave her a call button, the one I did see was only about 3 or 4 feet long and wouldn’t reach the recliner we brought in for her. Other places usually tie something to it just to make it a bit longer, but they never did that either. They promise you the moon when you sign up. They told us that the nurses station was upstairs and I explained that my mom can’t go upstairs alone. They replied that they’d bring her medicine downstairs for her when she needs it. The day she fell, she used her wheelchair to go up in the elevator to get her medicine because no one was around to help or check on her. She’s not used to being in a wheelchair, she uses a walker. They also told us they would be there to help her with getting in and out of the wheelchair, but they were not. She came back downstairs from the nurses station and waited for what she said felt like an hour. After waiting for so long, she decided to get herself out of the wheelchair and fell. And because there was no call button that she could reach, she laid there for what she said felt like another hour. Eventually they found her and she was then sent to the hospital. Her mobility was already limited before, and now with serious a spinal injury, her mobility will be even more affected.

Advisor of the ugly truth about this place. - Family/Friend

BEWARE OF THIS PLACE. Living here has been a disaster for my parents.

BEWARE of assisted living at Live Oak Village. Don't be fooled by the smooth-talking (and seemingly-commforting) marketing it uses to lure residents into moving there. It makes promises it does not keep. Many things about this place are seriously wrong. If your loved ones move here, they are making a huge mistake. Sure the grounds are pretty, but that hides the ugly reality of actually living there. Choose another assisted living facility unless you want to move to an assisted living facility that has turned out for my parents to be a horrible place. After only four months there, my parents are leaving Live Oak Village to move to another assisted living facility that will truly deliver the assistance it promises. Live Oak Village failed to deliver the assistance it promised to lure my parents to move to it. Only after my parents moved to Live Oak Village, it claimed it is not sufficiently staffed to provide the assistance it promised. It also racks up huge bills that are unnecessary and that it tries to make its residents to pay despite having been told in advance the residents neither wanted nor needed, and would not pay for, what Live Oak Village billed them for anyway. . Not all, but particular members of its staff and management are not trustworthy. One entered a resident's room for the stated reason to remove doctor-prescribed Lyrica from the resident's room because the staffer claimed "it is a narcotic" (despite the fact Lyrica definitely is not "a narcotic"). Many witnessed and were shocked by this staffer's claimed but completely incorrect "knowledge" about the resident's doctor-prescribed medication and this staffer's false statement about it and using the false statement that Lyrica "is a narcotic" as a pretext for entering the resident's room. Those who witnessed this came to learn this staffer had an ulterior motive for entering the resident's room to get the resident's Lyrica. If residents cannot trust Live Oak Village about their medication prescribed by their doctors, what can it be trusted about? If we knew before, what we know now, about the ugly truth of assisted living at Live Oak Village, my parents would have never moved there. Now my parents are about to move out of Live Oak Village to reside at one of the several better and much more trustworthy assisted living facilities in the area.

Stay away from The Haven

I can’t rate this home low enough. My father lived there for a about a year. Recently he began having mobility issues, more severe memory issues, and some behavioral issues due to his Dementia. As expected he was getting worse. They decided he was uncontrollable and sent him to a psychiatric hospital where he was diagnosed with a UTI. As one knows, that can be devastating to a Dementia patient. While he was in the South Baldwin Psych ward, The Haven sent a letter telling us he couldn’t come back. This is the kind of care you will experience there. When the disease progresses, they will dump your loved one. The report they generate will then make it very difficult to place you loved one anywhere else.

Horrible facility

This facility is absolutely horrible!! Everytime you call or visit the staff has changed due to someone being fired or quitting. They will not keep you informed about your loved one and quite frankly, act as if they could care less about any concerns you may have. Do your homework when choosing a facility. No wonder they have 17 empty rooms. If I could give this place 0 stars I would!!!!!
