Tragic

The staff members were all really friendly, however the value for cost is not worth it. Our loved one went in for assisted living level of care, completely ambulatory and within about three months is now skilled nursing care which completely devastated our family, especially with the finances. The care services at Willow Lake Place were completely non existent, our loved one was left in bed for hours which caused huge bed sores, and they never kept up communication with our family regarding anything with our loved one.

Our experience here

I would want others to know that we did not have an experience with Bloom at Kokomo. The facility itself smelled terrible. They had a male nurse who was excellent, but once he left, it went downhill. They were just very unorganized and I would not recommend them.

Nightmare at Belfair

My father was here for one year, during that time he moved to the memory care unit. The aides are lazy and lack supervision, the institution as a whole is ill-equipped for non-ambulatory patients and dementia patients. My father is in a chair and also has dementia, he had multiple falls; some of those went unreported to me and often no incident report was made. After the falls I requested they instituted fall hazard methods with him and nothing happened. Also have a lack of activities with him, as he sits in the same spot every time I come there.Management says they do more than industry standard which doesn't say much for the industry on a whole. Little extras they do look good on paper but not when you read the fine print; nor are they executed well. Keep in mind that you will be paying in excess of $4000 per MONTH. This facility should be inspected regularly by family and gov. It looks pretty but its the care of the residence that counts. He is now at the VA Nursing Home and is healthier and getting the extra attention that he needs for 1/3 the cost.

Don't be fooled by the beautiful looks of the building nor the cleaness

Don't be fooled by the beautiful looks of the building nor the cleaness of Bloom at Belfair. This facility change management at the end of last year (2013). However since October the care sucks, the two nurse (LPN) over there don't know what do, or how to run a assisted living facility. They never have a answer to any question and get lost after you asked them. Care staff is very rude , everyone does what they want to do. I think the money for rent is over the hill for the type of care being offered. The Food is awful and they served my family leftovers from Sunday Lunch. I can hear staff talking about the patients eat on the weekends. Jeff the head person in charge over there has a don't care attitude when it comes to complaints. Think twice before dropping them off over there!

Bloom sucks

This community was the worst community i have ever been to. I had booked a week of respite for my mom there in Bluffton, sc so i could still work and didn't have to worry about finding caregivers, which at this point was becoming impossible. From the moment i left her, i worried. It is a memory care unit, which yes my mom has some dementia, but not alzheimer. She is aware of her surroundings and what's going on. Within the first hour of us arriving, i was in my mom's room putting my mom's clothes away, when a resident came into my mom's room, intro her bathroom, took a nasty crap in her toilet, used her bedsocks that i had temporarily laid by the sink, to wipe herself with, then finished spoof her crap field hands in the clean, white towel that i had just hung up, and i think she had also crapped in the sink? Because i found little yurds in her sink. Then, when i had come back in again, to find out what was taking her, so long, i had let the lady do her business, she was trying to flush the toilet with the water knob on the floor behind the toilet, and was using my mom's wipes to clean up around the sink, and was moving things, all around her sink. I couldn't get her to leave. I had to call the, administrator, and he in turn sent some cna down to retrieve her. And she had a hard time with get and didn't seem that nice to her either. That was just the first hour. Then they did put mom to bed, all early because i was there, i was going to help out, and wanted to see how they were going to handle her getting her in this high bed. It took 2 of them to kind of lift her into it, mom dating ow the whole time and dating they hurt her legs. I was so concerned on leaving when i went to work, that i called back to have them check on her, that she will attempt to get out of bed and gal on that hard floor. They said they got her up. Lowered the bed, by taking the box spring off, and putting the mat down. The next morning, when i got there, apt 0900am, due to traffic, mom was up, she had her oatmeal breakfast and needs, she looked ok, she hasn't had a shower or anything, maybe a bed or chair bath, which is OK was only the first day. She was happy to see me. They were about to do some chair exercise activity, great. My mom needs, exercise. Yet, the girl doing them, didn't really seem to care if these people did them or not. I was trying to get mom to participate more than she was. That didn't last long. She passed out some crossword puzzle sheets for the residents to do. I can't even do crosswords puzzles, i knie mom s not. After she passed them us, she walked away. I did some work paperwork while sitting next to mom, and having a cookie i brought for us. Then i got, an important phone call, from overseas. I went into one if they're little game rooms for a little privacy, mom was, wheeling around in her wheelchair scoping the place out, trying to find a way out. While i was talking, i had one of the LPN nurses come to me, telling me that they are wanting to send mom to the hospital, because they think she s having trouble breathing, and she s wheezing. I got off the phone. Went to where they were checking her out, she seemed fine to me. Aktie raspy due to excess phlegm she gets from all the pollen in the air, which the Dr. Prescribed mucked for a needed. They said she hasn't gotten any yet, because it was as needed. They were checking her vitals, all seemed fine except her O2 was at only 88%, , yet they never attempted to check it again. I'm not a dr. But I've noticed with these finger O2 CHECKERS, sometimes you have to leave it on the finger for a bit too get a good reading, they hardly had it on her for a minute. But, who am i, I'm not a nurse. They also said that her congestion sounded like it was in her chest/lungs. I didn't think it appeared to be, but who am i, im not a nurse or Dr. They wanted to call the ambulance, but i said, no she really doesn't like ambulances, I'll just take het n her car, which she lives driving in, and also she will be more comfortable sitting up is better for her than laying diem in an ambulance, esp. If she did have any aspiration. I, asked which is the closest and best Hospital. They told me Coastal, right up 278. Got her in the car and started heading there, which wasn't that close. On the way, mom said she had to go to the bathroom, so i stopped at a Wendy's on way, because i know hospitals are not always that receptive to letting old people use their restrooms. She had a good bm, got her back in the car, and she felt better. Found the hospital, which was all the way out by I95, got her checked in at emergency, they took her vitals at check in already, and they were all great, including her O2 being 96%. But she s there now they got to check her out. They couldn't find anything wrong, except i noticed she seemed allotment dehydrated, she was thirsty, i got her done, ice t, and then she could finally pee, [Removed] Don't these facilities know that geriatric patients need to be given something to drink all the time, because they dehydrate easily. While she was in that hospital bed, i began to think about getting get back home. The whole idea of checking her in to an assisted living was keeping her out of a Hospital, and here she v is in one after only v one night! I called blooms administrator, [Removed], tools hit the situation, and thought about taking her home, and also wanted to make sure that i would get a refund, i had paid $1400 for 7 days. And she only stayed 1 night, he hemmed and hawed and said that wasn't his call. He wounds have to check with the hire ups. Well, okay i said, when will you know? He, says not today, it's already 400. Well, i said, she s all in the hospital, let me see when they're going to release her, if it's going to be overnight or much longer, maybe she ll stay another night, or if they keep hey overnight, I'll come by to pick up her stuff. They ended up releasing her at 500 pm. Since it was kinda late to have to drive her all the way home to Lexington, sc (3hour drive), i may add, we'll bring her back to the place and give them another chance, and thereby i can see again how their date is with her tonight, I had already had to get the night off from work, but I could do the morning run. I got there, caked them to let them know I'm on my way back with her, and they said they had packed up her stuff, they didn't think she, was coming back? I said i didn't know. Well, they agreed she can still stay here, but when i said i will stay with her for the night, they told me NO. We do not allow any family members to stay, unless they're checked in a resident too. I could not believe that. She is my mother. I don't know how many times i have spent the night in other facilities next to her in a recliner or sometimes just a chair, but they never kicked me out? I just couldn't believe that. Then the final straw, when i got there, and i was going to need a little help getting her out of the car, they wouldn't help me, because mom didn't want to go back in there. Well, i can't say i blame her. After all this, it is probably better i take her home. 3 hours later, we arrived safely at home, and she was so happy to be home. She slept like a baby.

Not what it says

Ridiculously high turnover - Director is non-responsive. Building was once THE place for Alzheimer's care but now it is just a space. Pictures are of when first manager was there and she left a long time ago. Recently fined by EEOC for discrimination of staff and that says it all about how this family operates. Moved mom out last month and have never been happier with new facility

I am extremely disappointed and gravely concerned for my grandmother's health and wellbeing at Bloom. Things have gone down hill since management changed from Riverside to Bloom. For the third time in the past year her medications have been [removed]. She ends up in crippling pain and nothing is done about it until someone from our family is present. Luckily we are able to go over there almost everyday. I don't feel safe with her in their care without this level of vigilant monitoring. Neither the management nor the contracted health aide company have been responsive. We will be moving my grandmother as soon as possible.

This facility is terrible, under staffed, no communication, no follow through. You can email or talk to the Director but don't expect to get a response despite his instance that you contact him. It is not clean and the staff is grossly under trained for the task at hand.

Awful food ice cold

The food is awful and cold.I feel like my grandmother is living in Martha Steward federal prison cell! The room are cold in the winter and steaming hot in the summer. No one seems to care if she comes out of her room a eats. We found her last weekend outside in 35 degree weather with one sweater, no bra and one shoe. There is answer from the man running this place. He told us he would investigate and get back to us.
