Independent Living

Many seniors may be capable of living without assistance, but cost of owning a home and the upkeep of the property might deter them from an independent life. Independent Living Communities provide a great remedy to this situation. Basic needs such as meal preparation and housekeeping are handled by staff and a calendar of recreational and social activities is maintained, allowing residents an opportunity to use their time as they choose, free from daily obligations. Along with their daily needs being met, residents can enjoy the opportunity to be among peers, surrounded by others of similar ages and backgrounds. Within the individual units, residents have access to their own private living space and a full kitchen, and can even live with a partner if they choose. While policies differ between communities, many residences allow cats and dogs as well. If medical or nursing support is desired, residents may always enlist the services of independent caregivers. There are a variety of benefits and expenditures to balance while choosing an independent living community. It is important to learn if these services are included in the care plan: Waiting list deposit, utilities, private phone, meals, initial assessment fee, cable TV, housekeeping, and move-in fee. The luxuries associated with independent living include transportation, community activities, fitness center & swimming pool, game/TV room, private rental hall, healthcare center, laundry service, and restaurant-style dining hall.
