We chose The Ivy at McKinney because the food served is more like my moms home cooking and she fit in well with the crowd here. The value for the money is excellent especially for everything we get. Every apartment has their own washer and dryer which has been a big plus and the staff will come help her with laundry when needed. It is more like apartment style living, they offer more independence if you want it but also have care available. The atmosphere is very friendly especially the residents, it is more middle class and there are always people out and about. I would definitely recommend the facility to others.... Read more

Has not been a wonderful experience. Food has not been good. The only reason I am still here is the have washer and dryer in the room. Food and cleanliness is probably the two highest ones for improvement. The activities are fair, but have no bus to take people with w/c to dr. or activities. I don't have much need for help so can't really rate the caregivers.

My loved one was previously a resident here, but we've moved her to another facility. Things started out okay, but then we had some issues. One thing that really bothered me was that the floors in the kitchen/dining area were dirty and slippery. The food itself wasn't too bad, other than offering mostly chicken and a lot of rice. There just wasn't a lot of variety and when you did choose an alternative option- it was a long wait before you got it. Like 40 minutes for a baked potato. Communication with the family was zero. We were also overcharged and are still waiting for them to get that resolved. I know that since we've moved our loved one out, they've changed management and are trying to fix things. But it was not a good experience for us.
No training of staff Medication irregularities Mold in rooms Rude ownership Inaccurate assessments No care plans designed Overselling/underdelivering Residents put at risk
Nice community and they did a lot for the residents. We preferred another community that was memory care.
The Ivy of McKinney has potential to be really nice, it is very clean but we have just had some frustrating things happen time and time again. Most of the staff members are really good but the head nurse or supervisor nurse does not always seem on top of her game - when we ask a question we do not always get a direct answer. They could work on improving their internal organization and communication with families.

Our experience wasn't the greatest from the move in and after settling in. The medication management for our loved one could have been more consistently delivered at specific times instead of whatever time the community choose to deliver these medications. The community was able to work with the family to get this complaint handled for the family after a few reminders by the family though.

Worst place ever!!! This place is absolutely a mess. We had such a bad experience from the beginning. They kept making mistakes with my dad's medication repeatedly. The lead nurse [name removed] is very disorganized and unprofessional. I went to the place and requested his medication log and she didn't want to give it to me, gave me all these excuses, I spoke with the director [name removed] and got meds list and log. They had wrong timing for a couple meds. [name removed] said they were going to fix it on their system and email me a copy. Well she never did, I emailed her and also texted [name removed], and they both ignored me. So, yes, the director [name removed] is also very unprofessional and careless. They also lied one time when they gave my dad his meds at the wrong time and they said they didn't, but we had a camera in his room so we knew they were lying. [name removed], one of the medical techs was also a mess and was rude to my dad many times. If you truly care about your loved one please find another place for them.

Our LO was in the assisted living facility for a couple of months until we decided to take him out due to several mistakes, from his nutritional plan to his medications (dosages and times). The staff seems very disorganized, there is a lack of communication, they blame each other, there is no accountability. From the nurse, med techs, front desk etc. I would never recommend this place to anyone, they can’t be trusted.

Our family had an in person tour and right away we did not really care for the community, we just knew from what we saw it was not going to be the best fit.
I like the community. The people were nice. Good for an older person. The layout was nice with nice sized rooms.
loved the unit but wasn't shown exercise room, which is a must-have, pretty small population, and concern about mem care being in separate building

My husband was there for a four day respite stay and they were fine. The staff were good and took care of him. They administered his medications. He seemed to enjoy his stay there. The food was good. The appearance of the community was good and the rooms was fine. It was close to our home, family, and friends. The other residents that lived there seemed happy and pleased.

I cannot say enough good things about this facility . My sister has been a resident in assisted living since August 2019 .. To say it was easy for her to leave her home is impossible.. But the care and love she is receiving is so wonderful .. The staff from the administration to the dining room help are great .. we have come to know all of them and feel they are a part of our family .. [Name removed] is doing so good under their care and their love for her .. and her love for them grows stronger each day !! She realizes the challenges they face each day !! We had our concerns when there was a change in owners .. but I can honestly say the transition has been remarkable.. To have so many individuals in one place who are there for the residents is awesome .. Thank you to all of the staff for your dedication in keeping the residents safe during this pandemic .. we know what you have been through to obtain their safety .. you are appreciated more than you will ever know !! God Bless you all !!

We recently moved our mom into The Ivy of McKinney and could not be happier. The staff is wonderful-very caring and professional. The apartments are very comfortable and accommodating. Everyone we have dealt with has been very friendly and helpful. Our mom loves it and she is a hard sell! We now have peace of mind!

I toured here, and while the people were nice enough, the tour felt rushed. I also felt that the foyer was dark, with many of the residents gathered, but not really doing anything. It just didn't seem as lively or as bright here as I would like, so I decided it would not be the best fit.

Came to tour this facility on the weekend and when i first walked in the activity director was doing an activity in the lobby and it looked like everyone was having fun, especially her. I immediately felt at ease and I hated to interrupt the activity but she was just finishing up and seemed excited to tour us and made us feel welcome. Place is a little older than some I've seen but had a feel like home not like a lot of the others that feel like hotels, nice common areas and nice grounds. Rooms are nice and have washers & dryers. I was looking for my mom who really isn't ready to move, but if she was, this place would be on my list. Just felt comfortable and inviting.

This is home to me. A loving place to be. I believe most people know my name and I know most everyone's name, residents and staff. There is plenty to do and enjoy here, good food and entertainment. A place where you are cared about and you know it.

A Place for Mom has scored The Ivy of McKinney 6.1 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
