Response from The Forum at Memorial Woods
August 9, 2023This is such a wonderful story Kathleen -- thank you for sharing it with us. We're glad you had that opportunity to meet some of our amazing residents and get a feel for the warm and welcoming vibe at The Forum at Memorial Woods, and it is wonderful to read that your mom loves her new home and her many new friends.
My loved one is currently a resident at The Forum at Memorial Woods. Overall, we're not very happy about her experience at this facility so far. They told me they could handle the level of care that my loved one needs, it's turned out to be just a big mess. The nurses on staff can't handle the needs of my loved one's care. The quality of care has not been good. The friendliness is not good.

July 14, 2023I am the Executive Director and would welcome the chance to speak with you personally about your concerns as we want every family to be satisfied by the care their loved one receives. Please contact me at the community so we can discuss this in more detail.
Well after my dad hade lived at the forum in assisted living for five years. The number one complaint, I had was the rude unprofessional staff. I was yelled at by nurses. On several occasions just for asking questions. The nurses have been there for years and the lack of management gives them a self entitled attitude. Care givers leave a lot so your parent can’t get comfortable with the same care giver. They are Short handed some times one person working for 30 people. The staff hangs out at the reception desk because there is no management watching or even around to know. The gossiping by staff about the people living there is ridiculous and a violation of privacy. The rudeness even trickles down to the office management staff and Leasing agents. Just plain and simple unprofessional and disrespectful staff is enough to reconsider The Forum. Chips on shoulders like you owe them some thing. When you pay hugh amounts of money. Was not happy with this place.

Elderly people are always welcome at The Forum at Memorial Woods. I can see that everyone on staff has been putting in a lot of effort to keep the building clean and safe, especially in light of this horrific outbreak. Everyone on the team is usually grinning. A positive outlook went a long way in giving residents peace of mind regarding anything and everything. My parents needed some time to get used to their new home at The Forum, but now that our two relatives have moved to [removed], they miss it, which has made me value the forum even more. I understand they got all the love they needed there. It's a huge blessing to have them.

Response from The Forum at Memorial Woods
May 1, 2023Thank you for sharing your thoughts on life at The Forum at Memorial Woods. We are thrilled to read that you feel our team has provided excellent care to your loved one, and that your family has had a fantastic experience here. We very much appreciate your review and your recommendation.
DEBT DEBT and DEBT. My check for rent was not controlled by the forum. Corporate deployed payment. However that said a plumbing problem involving two units on fourth floor caused my unit to pour black "stuff" in and all around bathroom into the hallways near my boxes and personal items inside. The black water rose up in the shower as though a volcano rising bubbling its source. No discount toward incident that happened. There were many reasons as to why I needed to get away from here. This is not the best place to be and sign a lease. I do have a kitchen and a dining room and living room and the community manager [name removed] always speaks to me in a supportive loving tone. My stay at The Forum could have been enjoyable. I learned meals were not that good every day lettuce edges withered as normal Breakfast was the same once you learned the system of choices And tables were owned by regulars who sat with friends all the time I didn't go there with money in my account for rainy days. Oh yes, I forgot Evening and Sunday dress code is serious. Meals on Sunday Evenings allowed staff to get a break. The evening take home snack was not good. It reminded me of H.E.B. Turkey Salad. It was offered every Sunday Evening. My experience taught me - Pretty doesn't always treat you well It is just as any other place that is for (old people) Fear and intimidation works BEST

April 26, 2023I am the Executive Director and want to thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns. We were sorry for the inconvenience caused by the plumbing problem in your apartment, but are glad that when that occurred our team was able to quickly resolve it and move you into a new apartment away from the issue. While we certainly appreciate your positive feedback about our team, we take all feedback seriously and will use it to improve our services. Thank you for having chosen The Forum as your home and we wish you all the best going forward.
We had a great tour experience with The Forum at Memorial Woods. This was our second choice. The staff were all extremely nice and helpful, but we just felt it was not the right fit for our loved one. It is a high rise and I think that was the main reason.
Response from The Forum at Memorial Woods

We'd like to invite you back to spend some more time with us getting to know our team and the amazing residents who call The Forum at Memorial Woods home. Plus, you can enjoy the spectacular views of Memorial Park and Houston’s three skylines. Should you have occasion to explore Assisted Living or Memory Care, those neighborhoods are located in a different building on our full-service campus. Please accept our invitation to join us for a meal or program at your convenience.
My husband liked his short stay at this community. This is a nice place and some of the nurses were on top of things. My only complaint is that there did not seem to be a lot of communication between the day and evening staff. The food was good and they offered daily activities. The staff were nice.

We have 2 family members in Independent Living at The Forum; we visit one to three times weekly. There's both good & bad news -- read more. 5-Stars: The good news: The Forum's independent Living is a really NICE facility. The staff consistently address residents by name. "Good morning, Mr. XXXX." The door men / security staff are very well-trained and courteous; the dining hall staff are attentive and polite. All the public spaces -- the lobby, elevator areas, hallways, dining room, activity rooms -- are beautifully furnished. Live orchids are always in the lobby. The food is high-quality and attractively served; the menu is nicely varied. Breakfast and mid-day meals are buffet-style with wait staff providing drinks and assistance; evening meals are ordered restaurant-style, and wine is available. Residents are offered interesting art classes and have the opportunity to participate in Forum-offered trips to cultural events (i.e. the Opera, etc.) or lunches out on the town. Throughout the year, there are fun on-site celebrations -- authentic TX barbecue during the Rodeo, grilled American favorites and live entertainment outside for the 4th of July, and many more too numerous to mention. In the month of their birthdays, residents are invited to a lovely champagne luncheon. One guest is complimentary, and others may attend for a reasonable fee. Happy Hours are offered twice-weekly. There is a phenomenal effort by all staff to provide a really wonderful holiday event in December. Residents are encouraged to invite friends and/or family, again for a reasonable fee. The Forum is decorated beautifully; the food is absolutely top-notch, and the entire first floor is converted into a lovely dining experience. Live entertainment is provided in each dining space; everyone -- staff, residents, guests & tiny tots -- are dressed in festive attire. It's a really nice event, and residents get to meet each other's children and grandchildren. In all these aspects, the Forum is 5-star senior living. 1-Star: The bad news: We noticed both of our loved one's apartments had very high humidity this summer. We called maintenance repeatedly; they never answer the phone!!! We left voice messages but received no responses. I took time to physically track down a maintenance man; he explained that we had the a/c unit fan set incorrectly; we corrected that in both apartments. In one apartment, we were shocked to find mold growing on the upholstered couch and chairs. We called maintenance and left messages again. Weeks passed before we got a response. The head guy had been on vacation. (And NO ONE ELSE can check voice messages?!?!!?) The Forum wanted permission to spray the furniture with MOLDEX. We didn't want a heavy chemical presence in the apartment; we researched the product. It's NOT recommended for use on upholstery!! We -- ourselves -- successfully used tea tree oil and rubbing alcohol to kill the mold. We still needed to fix the humidity issue in both apartments; we left more messages. We noticed mildew on the wood cabinets and furniture in the other loved one's apartment. We left more messages. I showed the mildew to the marketing person who had assisted us with both move-ins; I asked for a plan of action and a timeline. The response, THREE WEEKS LATER, was an invitation to a phone conference with a mold / mildew expert. The remediation has yet to begin. Meanwhile, our loved ones' allergies and asthma have intensified. There is clearly a huge problem with humidity / mold / mildew at The Forum. Check out the huge wet spot on the ceiling in the corner of the lobby! I don't know how many apartments are affected, but 100% of our family's are.

My mother in law lives in independent living and has for over four years. She called me the other night and said the food served for dinner was so bad she couldn't eat it and went to bed without dinner. This happens all the time. She and the other residents complain over and over again to no avail. If I had another place for her to live I would assist her in moving tomorrow!

December 22, 2015Thank you taking the time to write a review about The Forum at Memorial Woods. We know that for our residents the dining experience is a very important aspect of life in our community so we endeavor to accommodate their food preferences and tastes. We would like to hear more about your mother in law's experiences. Please contact us so we can arrange an opportunity to speak with the head of our dining services and share your concerns directly.
I toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one, and this place was a big disappointment. The assisted living section was just depressing. Many of the residents were just parked in the hallway outside their rooms, and nobody was talking or even smiling. I would not have felt comfortable placing my loved one here.

The people that work there are very good and they are attentive. When my Mom was moving in they did not complete a lot of construction items. There seemed to be a lack of communication between the construction staff and the sales team. There is also supposed to be a service where the services of a Nurse Practitioner are offered, but this person never answers voicemails, so that needs to be worked on.

The staff at The Forum at Memorial Woods was quite exceptional. They were beyond a 5 on everything at this location. The care received was also exceptional as well as the staff at this facility. I am extremely elated with everything here.

My mother was a resident of the Forum at Memorial Woods for 25 years. She was actually the first resident there. She moved there primarily because of the location but also it appealed to her that there were many levels of care. She moved into the Independent Living in 1990 and lived there until 2013. At that time she moved into the Assisted Living. The director of the facility, Madeleine was amazing. She gave me her cell phone number and took care of any concerns I had. The Assisted Living facility was a lovely place. However, I thought it was a little bit too isolated for my mom. She needed more interaction. That was totally my mistake for not encouraging her to move when she had a little bit more independence. I believe if she had moved there a couple of years earlier she would have been able to get connected easier with the other residents and staff. Her stay at the Assisted Living facility was only for 6 months. Madeleine called a Family meeting and explained to us that my mom needed more care than was offered at the Assisted Living facility. I reluctantly moved her to the 4th Floor of the Memory Care unit. Please note it is always going to be a difficult transition and I HATED leaving Madeline. But she assured me that the Director of the Memory Care would take care of my mom just as well. Her name is Liz and she did not disappoint. Again, she gave me her cell phone and was available to me for any questions or concerns. If you are reading this, you already know that taking care of a loved one and making decisions about care and living arrangements is extremely difficult. However, the ratio in the Memory Care unit is very small and the doors to the rooms are left open (unless the resident prefers them to be closed) At this stage in my mother’s life this was very comforting because she was becoming lonely and afraid. In this unit she had many of the staff members coming and going and staying with her. Please know, I am a little high maintenance, ask many questions, and expect high quality care. My mother was almost completely blind the last years of her life. The director, Liz was extremely kind-hearted, patient, and made sure my mother was always comfortable in her new home. I can honestly say my mom’s stay at The Forum for the entire 25 years was very pleasant. When she could no longer take care of herself, the staff always kept her room clean and her personal hygiene was immaculate. Also, the staff would always encourage my mom to take part in the activities. I would recommend the Forum without hesitation – especially if Madeline and Liz are the Directors.

My parents moved from their patio home to The Forum. The whole process has been smooth and painless. I'm impressed with the facility, the services and the accommodations. It is more expensive, but overall for what is offered I think it is worth it. The atmosphere really sold them in the end - happy people and a positive, warm environment.

Really good facility, one bedroom apartments are some of the best I've seen. Expected it to be on the high side price wise and it was but not over the top. Location great. Only real objection was that I felt my Mom wouldn't get out of the building as it is set up very much to be "an inside" environment location.
