At Somerford House and Place of Newark it is our goal to exceed expectations for all our residents, families and guests. I am the Executive Director and would very much like to speak with you personally about your concerns. Please contact me at the community at your convenience. Thank you for your consideration and I hope we are able to speak soon.
My experiences are based during the pandemic. Pauline and I have been able to have great interactions. She calls regularly about my mom. The community sends an email to the family with updates and a monthly calendar of activities.

Christy, thanks for your feedback. It was good to hear that Pauline is doing a great job in keeping you up-to-date regarding your mom, and that the regular emails are doing their job of letting you know what's happening in the community. It is always great to hear from families that they feel connected to the community even when they might not be able to physically be there.
I would highly recommend this community. Compared to other communities in the area for the price. The staff are always friendly, and always interacting with residents and families. They have made an exception for me to come in and see my loved one due to them being on hospice. I've been given a COVID test and answer questions. This has allowed me to spend time with my loved one daily.
Somerford House community is a little more on the expensive side. We are a little disappointed in the care service at the moment, since we aren't able to go into the facility and see him to make sure he is getting care for. Before COVID the food looked adequate, he has yet to complain. The rooms are adequate in size as well.

We know that the restrictions in place during the COVID-19 crisis have resulted in some hardship for residents and their families, but throughout this our primary goal has been to safeguard our residents and team members. I am the Executive Director and would certainly welcome a discussion on how we can set your mind at ease regarding the care of your loved one -- and are happy to provide assistance with FaceTime, Zoom, or Skype to help you stay in touch. Please contact me at the community at your convenience. Thank you for your consideration.
They treated my mother well. It was a very clean place. They had activities for the residents, if they didn't want to do the activity, they did try to push. We did have a private caregiver with my mother. I'm not sure if my mother was not truly on her own. Having a private caregiver in, I'm not sure with the community if that made a difference. I'm not sure it made a difference at all. My mother never complain about the way she was treated. The caregiver did have to remind about medications. However, that happens in some other communities as well. The value was really good, it was about twice the cost to put her in a community down near me in DC. It was an eye opener for me due to the cost. She did remember some locations when going on bus rides. I believe my mom was happy there. It was a very pleasant place. Overall I think they treated her very well. They knew her name. When I visited they treated her well and everyone with dignity.
The place always looked clean. The staff could have improved a little on the attentiveness to the residents. My mother had an independent caregiver and we think if that person wasn't there, her needs wouldn't have been completely met. When we were able to get them to pay closer attention to things, they did just fine. They were good about engaging the residents in activities. We did feel the community was a good value for the price.
Absolutely, love this place they get it. I saw the respect and care being given to each resident and actual activities taking place.
My mother is very happy with her new home. The staff is very friendly, attentive and helpful. The facility is very clean and has no odor to it. My mom's bathroom could use more attention but I think that is my mother's fault not Somerford's. Her room is spacious and comfortable, decorated with all her personal things to make her feel like it is truly a home. Most all the staff addresses my mom by name and are readily accessible to family members. My mom, who can be picky, enjoys the food. She also participates in the many daily activities. You can go outside in nice weather and they have at least 1 outing a week. Somerford went out of their way to make my mom feel welcome, include her in activities and introduce her to fellow residents. They even sent her flowers! Overall we would recommend this place if you are considering assisted living.
Very nice facility and very clean. Residents were very happy and friendly and active in the facility. Staff and residents were very communicative and engaged, everyone knew everyone and had a nice family atmosphere. Costs are comparative to other facilities. Rooms were of nice size but limited on Kitchenettes.
We have been a little unhappy with this community. My mom had become ill. The staff is nice, but then need to give more attention to her needs. The menu is needing some improvements. We do like that they have activities. We are hoping that things get a little better in the time since we just moved into this community. Families should consider this community for the care of a loved one, but maybe a tour would be helpful for them
