Our experience at Sand Sage of the Highlands

Their nurse practitioner is the best. If it weren't for her then we wouldn't have known that my mom needed to see an oncologist, which ultimately led to a leukemia diagnosis. The facility was clean, they rent month to month which was a big relief because we didn't need the facility any longer once their nurse got my mom's meds straightened out after a really awful experience in skilled nursing. The food is unfortunate, but the staff is friendly and the facility is quite nice.... Read more

Work in Progress

We are still working on some issues here at Willowood at Mustang. I would give the community a higher rating but they have not come through with replacing the carpet in my mom's studio apartment. They cleaned the carpet but the former resident was very incontinent and the room still smells like urine. They had said they were going to get her into a one bedroom and my mom is very unhappy about living in the smaller studio apartment. They provide activities for the residents but my mom does not need a walker or wheelchair so she feels they don't offer a lot for her level of activities. She does enjoy playing dominoes and going to the church services that they have there in the community. Other than my mom's room the rest of the environment in Willowood is clean and warmly decorated.

Funny Smell Lingering Around

I had an okay tour of this community. Everyone was kind to my family. From what I saw everything looked nice, and well-kept. The only issue I had with the community, was that there was a funny smell lingering around the facility. The experience went well, but I did not feel this was the community for us.

Awful smell in memory care unit!!

I am not very pleased with the tour I had of this community. There was a strong smell of feces in multiple areas of the memory care unit which really disturbed me. It made me wonder if staff are really making sure the hygiene of the residents is kept up and taken care of. I would not want my wife sitting in that smell or having an accident and it not being taken care of for a period of time.

We are very sorry that you experienced an offensive odor while visiting our community. It is of utmost importance to ensure our customers receive the level of care they expect and deserve. While odors do occur in memory care units, taking care of them ASAP and discarding trash immediately are part of our staff's normal routine and is a priority to us. Please feel free to contact us at [removed] to discuss this in further detail.

Beautiful Community Exceeded My Expectations!!

I am very pleased with my choice to move my father into this community. The place is kept so clean the maintenance is doing an excellent job. The room my father is in is adequate and fits his needs. The center has so many large windows which provide a good amount of natural lighting. The staff is so friendly. They have gone out of their way to make my loved one feel welcome and at home. They also encourage interaction among the residents so they could make friends. I have not been there during nay meals but I know that my father has the option to eat with everyone in the large dining room or have it taken up to his room.

Amazing and Caring

The staff at Willowood are amazing and truly care about the residents. Our family member has had some medical issues, and the nursing staff have been very helpful in helping us with all issues. Everyone is so friendly and make sure the residents feel at home in this facility. I am impressed with the cleanliness at Williwood; they even wash the baseboards! We couldn't be more pleased!

I would recommend Willowood at Mustang!!!

We made the right decision in moving my Father in law into Willowood. I am very pleased with the entire staff at the community. They are very friendly and they keep me updated on his progress. I have not yet had a chance to try the food but it seems to be ok for him. This is a small community with only 15 beds but they do keep him active. The community is kept clean and the grounds are well maintained.

Moms new home

Willowood is a great place. From the moment we walked in we felt the warmth and comfort of home. The staff from the director to the maintenance man to the nurses aides to the cleaning lady went above and beyond to introduce themselves to us as we made a tour of the facility. On the same day we toured 2 more sites and it was unanimous that mom would be moving to Willowood. She has been there for a short time and has adjusted very well. They paired mom with another lady for meals and it turned out to be a great mix. Both just laugh and talk to each other have a great time over their meals. The staff has been wonderful to mom and made her feel at home and in some cases like their grandma giving and receiving a hug and kiss from them. I can't speak highly enough for the staff. The Wellness Director goes far beyond to make sure medicines are distributed as need and is always on top of everything. Love this Place!

Very nice place!

Our experience with Willowood at Mustang has been a very good one, overall! It's a very safe, secure community, which was our number one concern for our loved one. The facility itself is well kept and clean, and they provide a good level of care and service for the price. Our loved one has also really been enjoying the activities and food!

Very, Very Good Place

The staff is very, very good. They are friendly and accommodating and engaged with the residents. My only improvement would be that their menu and dietary concerns seem to be a little lacking. I am very happy that my mother is where she is at though and she is receiving good care.

My sweet Mom

My Mom stayed at Willowood five different times for respite. Respite is a great way to find out which Assisted Livings will meet your needs. You find out if the staff is efficeint, nutrition needs, cleaniless in the rooms, how happy residents appear, activity levels and entertainment for residents. My Mom requires level 2 she is not in the memory wing so I have no idea how the memory wing is, but everything has met our expectations and best of all Mom loves it at her new home. Mom actually wanted to live at Willowood after respite care over my house. I was reluctant to let her become permenant, but after discussing with the director she gave me some good pointers and explained it is better for the residents to become aquainted with each other early on the residents take care of each other vs coming in the last stages of dementia. Willowood has a choir, crafts, bingo, dominoes, daily devotions, and church service on Sundays which was important to Mom's spiritual needs. Mom has been at Willowood on a daily basis since Dec., but so far so good. The staff is really friendly and upbeat and the food is tasty.

My Sister Felt Like a Queen

My sister spent a weekend at Willowood initially. She was so pleased with the surroundings, food, staff, and care that before she left she asked if she could go back. We moved her in a couple of weeks later. She continued to be happy and thrive there. She would tell me that they treated her like a QUEEN and that she hoped to never leave.
