My loved one really enjoys living at Modena Reserve at Kensington. The staff made the move in process very easy. Our contacts were available whenever we needed assistance. For instance, they recommended a notary for us and served as witnesses when we had to have some legal forms signed. The maintenance person also installed the TV (not easy!) and a helped with few other things as well. The facility is lovely - we think it looks more like a sophisticated hotel. It's in an urban area, so if you want lots of hiking trails, it's probably not the best choice. But the area around the facility has been beautifully landscaped, with a fountain and nice outdoor seating areas as well. My loved one's view is wonderful - right out on the fountain with plants and greenery around. They offer many activities for the residents in many categories- exercise, movies, live music. What we hadn't seen at other facilities is that the Modena also capitalizes on the unique experience and capabilities of their residents (former judges, professors, etc) who give lectures and lead discussions on interesting current or historical events. I think that was a key reason we chose Modena for my loved one. My loved one really enjoys living here. She says that the food is excellent and the people are very friendly. It's not inexpensive, but there's a lot of value for the money. We're very happy that my loved one lives here! We would definitely recommend Modena Reserve at Kensington to others!... Read more

It was very nice but not the most expensive. closer to my home than the others. Also, liked that it also has independent living, so my mom can interact with all kinds of people. Really positive experience so far. The facility is beautiful. Food is very good. And the care has been good. They're responsive to feedback.

Response from Modena Reserve at Kensington
May 18, 2023Hi Anna, thank you for taking the time to share your experience at Modena Reserve at Kensington! We're delighted to hear that our community is conveniently located for you and that your mom will benefit from the opportunity to interact with a diverse group of residents. We truly appreciate your feedback and hope to continue providing a welcoming environment for all of our residents and guests.
The common resident areas are nicely laid out and the housekeeping staff do a good job as it presents quite well. The courtyard area in particular, with the fountain, is really lovely. Meals are very tasty - mom enjoys them very much. The only negative is that the menus could be updated more regularly - at least weekly - so the lunch and dinner offerings are not the same 4 for weeks at a stretch. But again, the kitchen does a good job at preparing appealing and yummy meals. As regards assisted living, our experience during the early weeks after move-in, the facility had a difficult time with providing consistent services - showering, housekeeping, laundry, and meals brought to my mom. I had to send numerous emails to the executive director but after 6-7 weeks things settled down to a routine. Every resident wears a wrist unit so that if assistance is needed, they can touch the wrist unit and a notification is sent. However, it is difficult for my mother to bring herself to call for help. And, because in the early weeks when she would try to call for help and help was a long time in arriving as in 20 mins, 30 mins, or never, she just stopped using the wrist to summon assistance. The apartment/unit is nicely laid out and ease of mobility was taken into consideration - though wheelchair users cannot use the bathroom vanity sink nor get to the kitchen sink. In general, my experience has been a mostly positive one for my mom. Modena Reserve was the fourth place I toured and I knew before leaving it was the right one for mom. The care specialist who assisted me from A Place for Mom was exceedingly helpful, always friendly and polite, and I could not have successfully placed my mother without their services. I highly recommend the expertise of A Place for Mom.

Response from Modena Reserve at Kensington
September 7, 2022Thank you for the recommendation! We appreciate your support of our community.
I made the right move and I would recommend for others to join me at this community. They also have actives for the residents like movies, bingo, cards, scrabble and more for the residents to do to stay busy at this community. They also have lectures and art classes. I like this community a lot. The staff are amazing and if anyone sees something that needs to be done they do it. I have seen the executive director serving if needed they are warm and caring people.
