Heritage Woods Review
This community made a lot of promises at the initial meeting and signing of the lease agreement. The entire administrative staff that signed me up left within a month of my mom moving in. The nursing staff that admitted my mom, left within two weeks of her arrival. We have had many issues with medications being given late or even dispensed as prescribed. Luckily, my mom does not have life-threatening medications, but this has been incredibly stressful.
They stated that cleaning services were included; however, these services include staff that use the same dirty mop water in each resident's room without changing the water between cleaning - this has been reported to the management but not changed. The unsanitary measures mean my mom's apartment is being mopped with potentially contaminated water. We have had to hire an outside cleaner to come in to ensure my mom's room is clean. This cleaner is not the only person I have observed coming into the community.
Heritage claimed the food was top-notch, that freshly prepared meals with a nice variety would be available with a standard menu for consistent items, and that fresh fruit would be available. That has not been true; the food could be better in most cases, with many dishes being too spicy for many to eat. My mom and other residents have to supplement their meals with continuous groceries. This is an added cost and disappointing since the food was to be an included cost in the rent. Unfortunately, the meals are getting worse. I would not recommend this facility to a family that had serious nutrition issues for their loved one - unless they are willing to constantly shop and take food to their family member. For example, yesterday, a resident was told that two pieces of toast and a cold (unmelted) piece of cheese was Heritage Wood's version of a Toasted Cheese Sandwich. The resident asked if the sandwich could be grilled, and the cook said they would add their complaints to the list. The residents met to address the food and were told that the "corporate people" would fire the cooks if they deviated from the poor quality food being served. In the last 6 months, the community has had 4 cooks and is currently getting a new cook.
The facility has an excellent maintenance staff and an outstanding response to any issue with the apartment.

Tour experience
Heritage Woods is new so therefore it was beautiful. It's located on a Very busy road and again further from family and friends which was the main reason we did not go with them. Both of these for the Medicaid waiver were studio apartments. I don't believe mom would have liked that. They did offer assisted living and memory care. I believe mom will be in a memory care unit in due time.

Overall a good facility
l have had my loved one(s) in a few different communities and all senior living communities have issues. You have to keep your eye on them. Sometimes staff is stretched thin and calls don't get answered right away. It's not continual and it's not always bad, but sometimes they would ring and it can take upwards of 15 minutes for a staff member to show up. Heritage Woods is an immaculate facility; everything is contemporary and up to date. They put a lot of thought into areas for the residents to sit and enjoy their surroundings. The courtyard is also beautiful.

My First 90 Days Working with Heritage
The community is responsive with answering our questions. The management staff are adequate in giving us advice when needed or asked.
There are three meals a day and the residents have choices for the to choose from. The community seems to have staff turnover a bit higher; however, this is understandable as it is a tough job.

Don't put your LO here!!
This place looks nice. They have nice apartments with room for furniture. Don't let that fool you! Besides a couple caring staff members, it is horrendous. We find bed made with poop in it. Poop left on the floor. Bottom rash not being addressed. Hurt ankle and bruises on my dad's body. One time they did not check on him at all. The next morning he was found sitting in poop from his head to his toes, never getting him ready for bed or checking on him all night. I'm sorry his stomach got so off that it is taking awhile to get him back to normal bowel but really?! At the beginning he got so dehydrated my dad had to go to the hospital because his kidneys were failing. Another time he was taking a shower and they wanted him out before the shift change. Dad purposely put himself on the floor. The nurse call threatening to call the fire department unless he gets up. I told them to give him a couple minutes. He got up. Lack of training and terrible management.

I'm happy here and pleased with my experience overall. I like that they do my laundry for me and clean my room. When I first moved here, I was prepared to bring all of my medications, but they required that medications be ordered through their pharmacy. And it has been a big frustration. They ordered unnecessarily things, some of the order was wrong, etc.

It's Good for The Money
It is good, sometimes they don't know what they are doing. There has been several changes with staff. You should stay on top of your questions or concerns on your loved one. Some of the things may slip under the rug.
They have a new activities director and seems to be doing more with the residents.
