I would tell other's, don't go here. We've had several bad experiences here. One time I went to visit my loved one, who has dementia, and they were sitting in the dining room with a plate of long spaghetti. It was not cut up and it was served with a spoon. My loved one has dementia and they tend to walk around. We saw that their toilet was leaking and it took them weeks to get back to us about it. We found out that the toilet was not leaking, but my loved one was urinating on the floor; they were missing the toilet due to issues with their vision. It still took them weeks to check on it, because their maintenance guy was out. They should have checked to see if the toilet was leaking right away. There was a puddle being tracked throughout the community. Not only is that a slip hazard, but it's also unhealthy. They're also supposed to do their laundry, including the bedding every week. I was sitting there when someone came to take the laundry and they only took the basket, but did not take linens, towels, or the sheets off the bed. They didn't do that right in front of me. Most of the staff were mostly on their cell phones as well. They responded to these issues with a brief email and nothing else. One time my loved one wasn't getting the medication(s) they were supposed to be getting. It wasn't a medication error, it was a missing medication. There was a person doing the pill/medication pass, they stopped the director as she was walking by and informed her. She acknowledged it and walked on. She didn't apologize and she didn't show a genuine interest in resolving our problems. After we told her we were going to leave, she just sent an email. She didn't ask if we could sit down and talk about it. She just said, "I know you've had some complaints recently about the toilet, is there anything else?" She didn't reach out any further than that. To receive that kind of response, for the cost we paid, was shocking.

It's a very friendly place and very clean. They were very helpful answering any questions and things like that. The care was very good, and they did everything they were supposed to do.

My mom loved the food that they served and said everyone on staff was very friendly and welcoming to her. My mom is anxious/introverted so she did not participate in activities that they had provided.

The facility is beautiful, the staff is friendly, and their meal plan is great. There are a lot of activities there, such as - bingo, musicians who visit periodically, visiting speakers, movie nights a couple times per week, and a lot more. The community also comes with a bistro bar on the second floor, a deck for the outside area, a kitchenette that's open for friends and families to bake cookies or host a family gathering, and a library with a nice dining room table to gather if you want to bring in food. I think that the caregivers are really sweet and nice. It's really a beautiful facility; the building itself is rather prairie style with lots of wood and stone. It's very pretty that way and looks attractive. They allow pets with an extra fee, including dogs (under the condition that you can take care of your dog). Although there are not too many residents who have pets that I've seen. They offer physician services if you choose to use them as your primary care physician - which is handy for prescriptions, etc.. There's a memory care unit attached, so it would be easy to transition if your loved one needs too. That's nice because it can be discombobulating moving from one facility to another. My loved ones apartment comes with a kitchenette that includes a large fridge, cabinet space, a sink, and room for a microwave; there's no stove or oven. The living room is spacious and has a nice window overlooking the courtyard. The bedroom is separate and has a large closet and another window overlooking the courtyard. The bathroom is spacious with a walk in shower and grab bars where needed. The hallway closet is also quite spacious and can be used for storage and outerwear. She also has a very nice sized cabinet in the bathroom. It's the perfect amount of space for her level of mobility. Some of the places we looked at had a larger outdoor area for residents to garden and be outside, whereas there's no space like that at Heritage. But I'm still happy with it. My mom is pretty fussy about things and although its not her home, she likes it just fine and she says they treat her nicely. I would recommend Heritage Elm Grove to others.

This is a great place to place your family members. The staff are caring, attentive, and keep the family informed of any updates about our loved ones. My loved ones are enjoying the food. There are choices for meals, and snacks provided to the residents and there are three meals served daily.

The physical setting and our loved ones room is absolutely gorgeous, it could not be nicer and it just feels like home to her. However they could use some improvements overall - they run out of supplies often, there are some excellent care givers and others not to much. We were also promised certain things that just have not really worked out very well. The physical therapy person has been absolutely phenomenal and really has made progress with our loved one. Also we feel that they would really benefit if they had a bus transportation system.

The newer director [name removed] is starting to improve things, she is very receptive to comments and is working with our family. We do understand with covid it is harder for everyone, but sometimes when we would come to visit we could see care givers just hanging out on their phones and not really attending to the resident, which is where the lower value comes into play. The director [name removed] is really taking steps in the right directions, and we can see now where our expectations are being met.

Our family had an in person tour and it was just fine we had no problems at all. It was before the pandemic so we got to see a lot of the community.
We toured this community and it was very elegant and inviting. The tour was good and the staff was very friendly. The price was on the high end of our scale so unfortunately, it didn't meet our needs at the time.
My ratings are based on our first tour, prior to COVID We feel this is a great value. The people are very friendly. My loved one has enjoyed the activities being offered during COVID. The food is enjoyed by my loved one. After the first six to eight weeks my loved one enjoyed being in the community and likes the choice.

I have had a parent at HERITAGE-Elm Grove for the past 1-1/2 yrs. The first 2 months were the best and it has definitely gone downhill since then. Apartment cleaning and Laundry are suppose to be done every week. It is once every 2-3 weeks. Most food is left on the residents plates and not eaten. Only a couple meals a week are appetizing. Keep hearing a new chef was hired but food hasn't gotten any better. Portions have gotten alot smaller. Activities/Outings have become less.A new Director started a year ago with alot of promises, but have not noticed any improvements. Just changed some decor on the walls. They go thru alot of Directors and employees for only being open a few years. Always short staffed. The building (foyer & hallways) itself are beautiful, nice, attractive and always seem to be clean but maybe they need to pay their workers a higher salary so they enjoy their jobs and don't leave.

Response from Heritage Elm Grove
October 31, 2017We are please your mother is doing so well at Heritage Elm Grove. Providing an active and comfortable community for our residents if very important to us. We appreciate your comments!
Our loved one seems to be settling in well at Heritage Elm Grove. We have no complaints we could just envision the communication to be better. We would like to have more communication regarding how she is doing on a routine basis when we are not there. Whether it be through computer access or a monthly update with staff members who have first-hand knowledge of her well-being. It would help to give us peace of mind. The meals they prepare look very good. She really seems to enjoy the food. They have lovely white tablecloths and make the dining experience pleasant. It is a very clean facility. She has a nice large room that we decorated to look very homey and comfortable. We visit she is usually out of her room talking to residents, or listening to music. We are not sure if they encourage or how much she participates in the activities. We're just not sure what she is doing the rest of the time. She has been on one trip she happened to remember to tell us about. There is a nice enclosed patio area for her to get out and enjoy the fresh air. She has spent her life here in Elmgrove and it's nice she can continue to say she is home at Heritage Elm Grove. We would recommend this community to others.

September 25, 2017We are delighted that you've had such a positive experience so far with Heritage Elm Grove. Providing an active and comfortable environment is very important to us. Thank you for your comments.
Mom liked the food when she first arrived at the community. Since then it seems to have declined some. They offer a large variety of activities. The staff are encouraging and friendly, however once in awhile they are a little slow to respond to questions. They do keep me informed of how mom is doing. The community is very clean. They have nice courtyards and balconies. The physical therapists are doing a good job. I would recommend this community.

I had a tour of this community for my mother and I have no complaints of how things went. The staff where on time to our appointment and the property was very clean when I had visited. They where very full and had a lot of residents so there was not much vacancy that I had needed. It ended up not being the right fit at the time but I would recommend it to anyone.

August 23, 2017We are glad that you liked the staff and environment at Heritage Elm Grove. We hope you find a property that fits what you're looking for! Thanks for your comments.
For mom, the experience is going very well. The staff has increased her quality of life more than what we could have imagined we are so pleased with the progress she has made. The personalized attention given to the residents on the memory care side is wonderful. Life for my dad on the assisted living side is ok there are no programs set up for senior care no real activities. The food is not good it has to be temperature controlled so they serve it luke warm. I do feel that on both sides they are understaffed. What we were told to expect in the certain area just isn't being done or not done completely.

July 31, 2017We are delighted that your mom is doing so well at our Elm Grove memory care community. Providing personalized attention and care for our residents is very important to us. However we’re sorry to learn that your dad's experience in our assisted living community is only OK. Quality matters highly to us, so we appreciate your input.
My mom was there in both assisted living & memory care. Assisted living was great; memory care not! There is a seemingly constant change in staff, not enough supervision of staff and activities for the memory care residents lacking. It suffers from poor leadership although a new director seems to be making some positive changes! Dont be fooled by the beautiful building- they have a way to go yet. There are some amazing caregivers that do a great job, they just need to find a way to hire and keep them!

June 23, 2017We’re sorry to learn that your mom's experience with in our memory care community was less than adequate. Quality matters so we appreciate your input. If you want to let us know more about your experience, please send the details to [removed].
The staff are nice, however I think they may have had some staffing issues with housekeeping. I am not sure about the security of the community as people are supposed to sign in and out. There have been times when there is no one is at the desk. They do not always stop people when they come in. Mom likes the food and the community has great curb appeal. They have many activities going on including people coming in to entertain.
