I loved the staff that was there when my mom first moved into Randall Residence of Newark. Then there was a change with the Director who wasn't quite as personable, but ok. The Director of nursing changed three times in one year, which made it hard to get to know anyone. They were responsive to all of my inquiries. I believe that my mom got very good care from the general staff. I would recommend this facility to others.

Recommended

Not a good experience.
Go somewhere else. They trick you into letting them handle medicine then when you realize it, you have to go through a lot to get the medicine back so the resident can take them herself. They even stole some of her controlled substances medication. When she move out they either stole a lot of her stuff or they didn't call me to come and get what she left behind. The food was cold or not eatable.

Our review
Our loved one is not the biggest fan of the food, so we do bring them food a couple times a week. Unfortunately due to our loved ones physical condition they are not able to participate in the activities that they do have to offer.

Nice Community, Needs More Staff
I don't think there will be any community that you will be gungahoo.
The room and board price is ok.
I don't feel my loved one is the best care. The staff only bathes my loved one twice a week. The shower chairs that have been sent have all been wrong. Finally the community sent pictures of what the shower chair my loved on needs, so I sent that on to the medical equipment company. My loved on has been in this community since June of this year.
There are only 39 rooms in this community. The staff forgets what the residents needs or there is a major delay in getting the items for the residents.
The staff doesn't let me know what my loved one needs until they are out of medication or personal items. The staff doesn't lay out the items for my loved one to see' they just through it in their room.
My loved one doesn't enjoy the food.

A Very Nice Place
It is a very nice, small, clean place. Friendly caring staff. The rooms sizes are a little small but overall it is pretty nice. They have a small outdoor courtyard for residents to use. My mom is happy there.

A cheerful place
Chestnut House seems like a very nice and cheerful place. The care has been very good. It is a much better situation than she was living in before. We visited other places and at Chestnut House the staff really impressed us and the facility seemed very clean and cheery which is why we chose it.

Nice looking place, but just wasn't right
I toured this community while looking into care options for a loved one. The facility was well kept and clean, and all of the staff I met seemed friendly and professional. While this was a size I though was suited for my loved, there were still hallways that would have made him uncomfortable. It just wasn't somewhere I thought suited my loved one's personality.

Chestnut House is a great fit for my mom. The small, comfortable setting lends itself to individual attention. She is able to still have her independence but help with laundry and housekeeping? The meals are well balance and they offer a variety of food.

Very nice place!
We're very pleased with how things have gone with Chestnut House! The staff here are all wonderful people. They're caring, understanding, and they've been very responsive to any issues or questions that we've had for them. They really have gone over the top helping us through this transition! The facility itself is well kept and clean, and they do a great job looking out for the people who live here.

nice little place
Chestnut House is really a nice little place. There are a few things I would change. It is nothing major just some maintenance I would have them do differently. The outside needs power washing. Overall we are pleased.
