The residents and the staff are very friendly. The food is great with a nice variety. Wine is offered with dinner every night. There are a lot of activities including movie night, ice cream social, bingo, cards, reading group, writing group, champagne brunches, and live entertainment is brought in. There is valet parking. The community is two blocks from the fire station which is great for emergencies. The apartments are spacious with large bedrooms.

I have lived at Chateau Cupertino for about 5 months. I really like it, there is a lot going on. They are taking very good care of us during the quarantine for Covid-19. They are bringing are meals to our doors. I am very impressed.

My father has been incredibly happy here for the last 2 years. The food is good, the environs are very pleasant and cheerful, and the people who live here are educated middle class, which fits his social needs. It also has a much higher ratio of men to women than most other retirement homes, so men can feel comfortable here. It has a high proportion of Asians, compared to most such places that are overwhelmingly white, and for a Bay Area person, that diversity is much more comfortable. Chateau Cupertino has a model that I wish were more widely available: it is not a CCRC, but it is Independent Living with meals, housekeeping, and activities, so the costs are relatively low compared to other places since they do not have to do medical licensing. At the same time, they have nice relationships with caregiving agencies whom the residents can hire for personal care, and the costs are also low since those caregivers can serve several people for short jobs. This way residents can just stay in their apartment, rather than having to move to depressing Assisted Living and Dementia wings like in most CCRCs. I don't know why more places do not have this model.

It appears to be a clean, safe, friendly place. There have been a couple of issues since our Mother moved in. The main elevator has been out for almost two weeks now and while we know they are working to get it fixed, it is difficult for our Mother to have to go so far around to get down-stairs for meals, activities, etc. There was also a sewer issue one day when we were there. It seems it was fixed later that day but the smell was terrible downstairs. The staff is friendly and helpful and we are relatively pleased with what we have experienced so far.

The only minor issue I have with this community is I think it could be kept a little cleaner. Mom seems to like the food. They offer only 2 meals on Saturdays and Sundays. They offer some activities. The staff are very very helpful and patient with my mom. I would recommend this independent living community.

I checked out Chateau Cupertino since it was at a convenient location. It looked very nice at first. Then the day that my mother was supposed to move in, she was feeling hesitant and for that and other various reasons I was rethinking the decision. They talked me into it saying "well, why don't you just try it?" So I did. And this is what happened: They charged an outrageous amount for the care and did not provide good care at all. They did not give her the attention she needed and I ended up after seven days having to move my mother out of there. Despite this, they charged me seven thousand dollars just for my mom to stay in a room for seven days! I really feel like we were taken advantage of. They encouraged me to move my mother in when I was hesitant to do so, then gave terrible care, and took thousands of dollars for me. Not a good experience.

Chateau Cupertino is a very nice, pleasant place to be. I like being in Cupertino because I've lived here before and I am able to contact old friends. The food is okay. The deserts are fantastic. They have healthy food options but the unhealthy options are more appealing. Maybe they could make the heathy options look and taste more appealing. Considering the area it's in, I think it's a good value.

A Place for Mom has scored Chateau Cupertino 8 out of 10 using our proprietary review score.
We assign review scores to give a more reliable view into senior living communities and home care agencies. Our review scores prioritize reviews that are recent — the past 24 months — because we know families need current information when choosing senior care.
Those with many recent, positive reviews receive a high review score, while providers with few recent reviews — regardless of how positive — receive a lower review score. Communities with no recent reviews will not have a review score, even if older reviews are positive. The maximum A Place for Mom review score a community can receive is 10 points.
