Assisted living facilities offer apartment-style housing and social events as well as individualized care. The services provided often involve help with activities of daily living. Residents may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, facilities may provide respite, hospice, or dementia care. Wisconsin maintains a number of provisions associated with this type of facility. The Wisconsin Department of Health Services, Bureau of Assisted Living, Division of Quality Assurance, regulates community-based residential facilities (CBRFs) licenses this facility type. This facility has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include facilities must provide at least three nutritious meals a day and a nutritious snack, these meals must meet the recommended dietary allowances based on current dietary guidelines for Americans, these meals must meet residents’ special dietary needs, and therapeutic diets must be provided if ordered by a physician. Public assistance is available through The Elderly and Physically Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program, the Community Options 1915(c) Waiver program, and the Medicaid managed care 1915(b)(c) Family Care Waiver program for the aged and physically disabled. Staff must receive training in a number of fields. These areas include challenging behaviors, reporting abuse, job responsibilities, and standard precautions. This facility type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include when medication administration is not supervised by an RN, practitioner, or pharmacist, the CBRF must arrange for a pharmacist to package and label a resident's prescription medications in unit dose, If the medication administration is supervised by a licensed healthcare professional, the facility must ensure that these individuals coordinate the medication administration process and system, and Residents may self-administer medications if they are capable. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as reassessments must be conducted at least annually, and when residents have a change in needs, abilities, or condition, initial comprehensive mental and physical assessment, facility must develop a temporary service plan to meet immediate needs, and the plan must specify which program services will be provided to meet the resident's needs as identified by the assessment and the frequency with which each service will be provided. This type of facility is required to offer a number of services. These include transportation, information and referral, health monitoring, and resident-specific services. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents.
