Assisted living communities arrange residential living communities and assistance to seniors who require support with dressing or showering. Services provided often include support with ADLs. Residents may be kept under monitoring and evaluation. In select situations, communities may offer hospice, “aging in place”, or nursing. In Washington, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $66,000 . Washington maintains a number of provisions associated with this kind of community. The Washington State Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS), Aging and Long-Term Support Administration (Department) governs this type of community. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include medication administration, residents must state whether they will receive medication assistance or medication administration services, and medication administration provided through nurse delegation. Public assistance is available through Medicaid 1915(c) Waiver program–Community Options Program Entry System (COPES).There is a maximum occupancy of 2 residents per room. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include general responsibility for each resident, communities choose to provide certain health support services, administration of health care treatments, and assistance with ADLs. Staff members obtain education in a number of areas. These include: First-aid and CPR, safety training (3 hours), specialty training, and basic training (70 hours). Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as activities and service preferences, level of personal care needs, an initial comprehensive exam including medical history , and preferences regarding other issues important to the resident applicant. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include nourishing and palatable meals adjusted to meet individual preferences to the extent reasonably possible, not exceeding more than 14 hours between the evening meal and breakfast , practitioner, and a minimum of three meals a day at regular intervals.
