Assisted living communities have the luxury of apartment-style housing and social events as well as personalized care. The types of service offered often involve help with the activities of daily life. Occupants may be kept under monitoring and assessment. In certain instances, communities may offer Alzheimer’s care, “aging in place”, or nursing care. In Pennsylvania, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $40,020 . Pennsylvania maintains a number of stipulations associated with this type of community. Department of Human Services, Bureau of Human Services Licensing supervises this community type. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with unanticipated ADLs for a defined recovery period, basic cognitive support, activities and socialization, and monitoring and emergency response. Staff are required to receive education in a number of fields. These areas include fire safety, abuse and reporting requirements, infection control, and emergency procedures. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day and meals must meet recommended dietary allowances established by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
