Assisted living communities offer healthcare, recreational activities, and oversight to individuals around 65 years of age or older. The types of service offered often include help with ADLs. Occupants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide respite, hospice, or skilled nursing. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as risk indicator assessment, mental health evaluation, ADLs test, and physical health exam.
