An assisted living community is a residential community which provides assistance, support, and care to medically stable persons who do not need skilled nursing support. Services offered often involve help with activities of daily living. Occupants may be kept under supervision and evaluation. In select instances, communities may provide continuing care, hospice, or Alzheimer’s care. Oregon maintains specific rules related to this type of community. Oregon Department of Human Services, Office of Licensing and Regulatory Oversight regulates this community type. Staff are required to receive training in a variety of fields. These include: emergency procedures, the values of community-based care, infection control, and fire safety. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include 24-hour emergency care service, assist psychosocial wellbeing, transportation services, and maximize physical functioning. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 6. There must be one bath or shower for every 1 residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as physical health exam, ADLs test, mental health evaluation, and risk indicator assessment. Public assistance is available through Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must provide three meals a day and all food must be in accordance with the Department of Agriculture food pyramid.
