Located on the banks of the Hudson River under the gaze of the Catskills, Poughkeepsie is a picturesque city in upstate New York. The best views of the city can be found on the Hudson State Historic Park Walking Bridge, which is the longest pedestrian bridge of its kind in the world. The Barrett Art Center has a large collection of local and contemporary art and offers classes on a variety of mediums, including painting and sculpture. The Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum is located in the former president’s home. The very first presidential library, the museum showcases documents and artifacts from Roosevelt’s time in the White House. Once a home for the aged, the historic Cunneen-Hackett Arts Center is the city’s premiere performing arts venue for local and small stage productions. For larger performances, the Bardavon 1869 Opera House on Market Street offers a wide range of music, drama, and dance events. The opera house is also home to the Hudson Valley Philharmonic Orchestra.
