Assisted living communities offer residential communities and health care for your loved one who need support with things such as cooking meals or dressing. Services provided often include assistance with ADLs. Inhabitants may be kept under observation and evaluation. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide respite, nursing care, or hospice. Nebraska has a number of stipulations related to this type of community. Nebraska Division of Public Health, Department of Health and Human Services, Department of Licensure and Regulation licenses this type of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include case management, housekeeping/laundry, assistance with Addles, and assistance with personal care. Staff must obtain training in a number of subjects. These include: administration, rules/regulations/standards for operating an ALF, gerontology, and social services. Public assistance is available through Government assistance is covered through two Medicaid 1915(c) waiver programs. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include must offer written menus based on federal nutrition standards, provide adequate food services, and monitor for nutritional problems on specified weight changes. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as services for residents with special needs and services provided by the community: how often, when and by who. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. In total, there can be no more than 4 residents to a room. There must be one toilet for every 6 residents and one bath or shower for every 8 residents.
