An assisted living community is an organized living community which administers supervision, support, and care to medically stable individuals who are not in need of skilled nursing support. Assisted living communities frequently provide outings for social activity, aid with daily activities, and supervision of care. Under certain circumstances, communities may provide continuing care, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. The annual median cost for a private room is around $111,508 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $100,481 . Michigan maintains specific rules related to this type of community. The Department of Human Services licenses regulates this type of community. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to ensure their needs are going to be met. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include proper training of direct care workers to handle and administer medications, reminding a resident to maintain his/her medication schedule in accordance with the prescription, and medication supervision and administration.
