Assisted living communities provide apartment style housing and social events as well as individual support. Assisted living communities frequently provide care supervision, outings for social activity, and help with appointments and transportation. In some cases, communities may offer skilled nursing, Alzheimer’s care, or respite. The annual median cost for a private room is around $91,250 and the cost for a semi-private room is around 82,855. The state of Kentucky maintains specific rules related to this type of community. The Kentucky Department for Aging and Independent Living supervises this community type. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include transportation, personal care services, assistance with activities of daily living, and self-administration of medications. Public assistance is available through state Assistance programs for Supplemental Security Income (SSI).This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include no provisions identified. Staff are required to obtain training in a variety of subjects. These include: community policies, the aging process, adult abuse and neglect , and Alzheimer’s disease and other types of dementia. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 5. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. There must be one toilet for every 1 residents and one bath or shower for every 1 residents.
