Assisted living communities offer recreational activities, care, and supervision to individuals who are around 65 years old. Services offered often involve assistance with activities of daily living. Occupants may be kept under supervision and assessment. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer “aging in place”, skilled nursing care, or hospice. In Indiana, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around 49,200. Indiana maintains a number of provisions related to this kind of community. Indiana State Department of Health licenses this type of community. Public assistance is available through Medicaid A&D and TBI 1915(c) Waiver program. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include comprehensive nursing care, a nursing diagnosis, identifying responses to actual or potential health conditions, and executing a minor regimen based upon a nursing diagnosis or as prescribed by a physician, physician’s assistant, chiropractor, dentist, optometrist, podiatrist, or nurse practitioner. Staff members obtain training in a number of areas. These areas include records, emergency procedures, procedures required, and fire and disaster preparedness. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must consider residents’ food allergies, meals must provide a balanced distribution of the daily nutritional requirements, communities must meet daily dietary requirements and requests, and communities must consider residents’ ethnic preferences. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include distribution of prescribed medications, resident must be observed for effects of medications and undesirable effects must be documented and the resident’s physician notified, and preparation of prescribed medications. communities must consider residents’ personal preference meals may temporarily be delivered to the resident’s room Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to guarantee their needs are going to be met.
