An assisted living community is a residential community which administers assistance, supervision, and support to self-sufficient persons who do not require skilled nursing support. Assisted living communities commonly offer help with daily activities, supervision of care, and opportunities for organized activity. This type of community is required to have a staff member on duty 24 hours a day. The maximum occupancy is 1 residents per room. The minimum number of residents for this community type is 3. There must be one bath or shower for every residents and one toilet for every 1 residents. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include communities must provide three daily meals.
