Assisted living communities offer organized living communities and health care to people who may require a helping hand with everyday activities such as bathing or mobility. Assisted living communities frequently provide assistance with transit and appointments, supervision of care, and outings for social activity. Under certain circumstances, communities may offer Alzheimer’s care, respite, or continuing care. The annual median cost for a private room is around $102,748 and the cost for a semi-private room is around $95,083 . The state of Idaho has specific standards related to this type of community. The Idaho Department of Health and Welfare certifies this type of community. This type of community is required to offer a number of services. These include assistance with and monitoring of medications, routine housekeeping, emergency interventions, and laundry. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include food selections food selections must take into account residents’ food habits, food selections must take into account residents’ physical abilities, Prior to serving a therapeutic diet, the community must have a therapeutic diet menu planned or approved, signed, and dated by a registered dietitian, and food selections must take into account residents’ food preferences. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as the level and frequency of ADL support and other services, interventions for each behavioral symptom, the need for health services, and physicians orders. Staff members obtain training in a number of fields. These areas include resident’s adjustment to the new living environment, assistance with activities of daily living, use of adaptive equipment, and behavior management. Public assistance is available through Medicaid State Plan Personal Care option and the Medicaid Aged and Disabled 1915(c) Waiver program. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These provisions include self-administer medications, receive assistance with self administration, and have medications administered. Snacks must be offered between meals and at bedtime
