Assisted living communities provide residential living communities and aid for people who require support with mobility or dressing. Assisted living communities commonly provide care supervision, aid with transit and appointments, and chances for recreational activity. In select situations, communities may offer dementia care, respite, or “aging in place”. In Arizona, the annual median cost for an assisted living community is around $45,000 . The state of Arizona maintains specific statutes related to this type of community. The Division of Public Health Licensing Services, Bureau of Residential communities Licensing certifies this community type. This community type has a number of provisions pertaining to medication assistance. These include personal care services, directed care services, cognitive stimulation activities, and behavioral health services. Before a resident is accepted, they must go through a service plan screening to assure their needs are going to be met. This screening includes a number of areas of interest such as the amount, type, and frequency of services that will be provided to the resident, initial comprehensive mental and physical assessment, and The level of service the resident is expected to receive. Staff members obtain education in a variety of areas. These areas include cardiopulmonary resuscitation for adults, orientation that is specific to duties, in-service education, and first-aid. This community has a number of provisions concerning food and diet which include meals must comply with therapeutic diets specified in their service plan, communities must provide meals and snacks in accordance with federal dietary guidelines, and meals must meets the nutritional needs of residents. Public assistance is available through Arizona Long-Term Care System (ALTCS).
