Review ofAtria West 86
4.8

My first impression was very orderly, festive, and well kept facility. I moved in as a respite resident post-surgery and wanted a safe transition until I return to my home in Brooklyn. For the past month, my experiences has been upbeat and comfortable. Many details were attended to and I feel safe to have stayed in the facility for a short period of time. When the need arises, I will definitely consider returning to Atria West 86th. I would gladly recommended Atria to anyone looking for respite or permanent stay. The atmosphere is welcoming and friendly from both staff and residents.

The staff are absolutely wonderful and friendly. They really care about the people who live here. It is truly a community. My sister was very resistant to this change and within an very limited time she is happy and I don't have to worry about her falling or not taking her medication. I am no longer worried about the quality of life because she has great care here.

I have been residing in Atria West 86th for 2 years now, which seems like 10 years. My priority living in this community is my safety especially with my advanced age. I feel safe in this environment and the staff are truly helpful. I have met many wonderful residents and have close circle of friends whom plays Bridge with me 2-3 per week. I also have the privilege to sit with two gentlemen for meals. Overall, my experience has been pleasant thus far.

The first couple of weeks was a big adjustment not only for our loved one but for our family, and so far The Waterford has been a great experience. Our loved one needed a hospital bed very quickly and I think it took them less then 2 days to get a bed in his room. From what we have seen of the community it is very clean, and the staff are great. They are so attentive to him, always checking in and keeping in good communication with us. Other communities who kept reaching out to us wanted a nickel and dime for everything which was very upsetting to us, and The Waterford is all inclusive which we really like. Overall we have been very impressed.

Almost three years ago, after much trepidation, my siblings and I decided it was time to place my mom in an Assisted Living setting. As soon as we visited and felt the charm and grandeur of Van Dyk Park Place, we knew we found mom’s new home. From the start, the staff has been warm and caring, and although it is not her home of 60 years, it is an environment where we feel mom is well cared for and most importantly, she is safe. The staff is very professional, beginning with [name removed], in the Business Office, who especially has helped me unravel the parts of her care that I enjoy the least, the financial puzzles. [name removed] works with each family to ease this burden. The nursing department is highly knowledgeable and the caregivers work very hard. During the challenges of Covid, it was very evident that a safe and healthy environment was consistently maintained. Although it has been difficult for the residents, I am grateful for the manner in which my mom has been cared for.

It's not a very fancy facility. But it's very well kept. It's low-key and small, with just 80 apartments that are not fully occupied at this time. It's a very warm, nice, and welcoming place. It's not one of the very ultra fancy places, but she couldn't handle one of those. This is the perfect place for my friend. We had gone to many places that were recommended to us, and she felt very comfortable once we toured here at Atria Glen Cove. It was smaller and warmer as opposed to fancy and glitzy. And that was what was very welcoming to her. She says the care they give to her is excellent, and the food is excellent as well. I think it's a very good value. She is deliriously happy, which makes me feel the same.

Brooklyn’s official motto is “Eendraght Maeckt Maght,” which, translated from the Dutch, means “Unity Makes Strength.” Located on the East River shore of Long Island, Brooklyn and its uniquely diverse communities have something for everyone, including museums, art galleries, parks, and some of the most delectable cuisine in the world.

For many years, Brooklyn has been a haven for artists and musicians, and its reputation as a cultural hub dates back even further. The world-famous Brooklyn Museum, located in the heart of the borough, houses the second largest public art collection in the United States. Brooklyn is also home to prestigious music venues like the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) — encompassing an opera house and the BAM Rose Cinemas — and Bargemusic, a classical music venue converted from an old coffee barge.

Brooklyn boasts its fair share of picturesque parks. Prospect Park, perhaps Brooklyn’s most popular park, contains Prospect Lake as well as numerous cafes, gardens, and walking trails. Another popular destination is the Brooklyn Botanical Garden, which encompasses 52 acres, houses over 14,000 varieties of plants, and includes a Bonsai garden, an aquatic garden, and an art gallery.

A trip in Brooklyn would not be complete without the historic Brooklyn Bridge. Connecting Manhattan to Brooklyn, the Gothic Revival marvel offers gorgeous views of the Manhattan skyline across the East River. Visitors often cross the bridge by foot, explore Brooklyn Bridge Park, and then top off the day with an authentic New York-style pizza tour.

Transportation

Like the rest of New York City, Brooklyn has easy access to many means of public transportation. Subway lines and bus routes run throughout Brooklyn, and the borough itself connects easily to Queens, Manhattan, and Staten Island.
