There is a lack of transportation at the facility to and from appointments which is a concern. The community is kept very neat and clean I would recommend this community to others based on my experience.

We had a good tour of this community. Everything went well, and this is a nice community. The staff was friendly, and kind. From what we saw the community appeared to be well maintained. All went well, and the experience was a nice one.

My mother-in-law was in the memory care unit. When we toured the facility, they made all these grand promises of how they would help her with dressing, bathing, etc. However, that did not happen. In fact, she walked around all day with her pants on inside out. They do not keep a close eye on them which results in them wandering in other patients’ apartments. We just felt like they didn’t properly take care of her.

This place is poorly managed. There has to be issues due to high staff turnover. I have met some of the friendliest staff and then they are gone due to upper management. They have had 3 cooks in less than a year, they have had 3 director of health in less than a year, there front desk has had several turnovers, This is such a beautiful place but is poorly run. I have tried on several occasions to speak to management about my concerns and she just blew me off and told the staff that I was just a complainer.

My loved one was previously a resident here and it wasn't a good fit for her. We paid extra for one on one care and services, but they didn't really happen. I would say this facility is not a good fit for someone who isn't fully mobile. It could be a good fit for someone who is mobile and can still play games and socialize. The cleanliness and friendliness were poor, also. We ended up moving our loved one to a different facility.

The gentleman that is in charge is so nice as well as the gentlemen in charge on the memory care side. However, they are several short-staffed- at night there are only two staff members: a nurse and an aide to watch over all the residents on the memory care side. It is hard to have a lot of interaction with memory care residents in terms of activities, but they do bring in animals once a month and they take them out to the courtyard to sing songs and play music. We think with more staffing they will easily be able to make the proper improvements. the housekeeping could be improved also. However, the meals are terrible - the quality is bad and they get a lot of hot dogs and sandwiches.

If your loved one is higher function with their memory loss this is not the place for them, the staff members are very interactive with the residents. For the loved ones who doesn't really know what is going on and who are non verbal this could be fine.

The housekeeping is horrible as 3 days in a row the floors had the same tray on the floor. (Crumbs from nabs and paper underneath bed). Feces were in the toilet and my aunt was unable to get up to go to potty without assistance. One night I spent the night and needed assistance but nobody ever answered the call button.(I went to the nurse's area two hours later and the buzzer was still going off and the buzzer for them to answer was behind the nurse's cart on the floor behind the cart.). Another night that I stayed with her, the nurse's assistant was asleep at one of the craft tables in the hallway and I had to speak to her three different times before she responded. She then laid her head down to go back to sleep. My aunt was sent to the hospital to check out her pain, I called the hospital and she was not listed - called to speak to nurse numerous times but could not get an update for over a month of calling. The doctor released her to go to a rehab and The Blake had no record of where she was. The doctor finally called to let me know where she was located. She was out for over 2 months before they found her not in her room. Truly disappointed as I had heard so many good things about this place but it was a horrid experience for my aunt and all her nieces and nephews. Truly disappointed!

Room cleanliness is unacceptable. Constant staff changes. Very poor communication. My fathers personal belongings always missing. ( and this is because of other residents walking into his room unsupervised) My father will use the bathroom if taken, needs to be on a schedule. He is constantly wetting himself because I’m not being taken to the bathroom enough. Would definitely not recommend this facility.

I would suggest you avoid The Blake at all costs. The staff are not attentive, communicative. They don't answer the phone or questions or concerns. They pretend they have activities such as placing calendars up. However, they allow the memory care residents wander the halls and not direct them into activities. They were short staffed due to the pandemic. The staff don't try to reach out to the doctor to see what could be causing issues with the residents. They don't talk to the family about our loved one's concerns. The community was supposed to be assisting with bathing, medication management, meals, activities, housekeeping, laundry and more for my loved one. The memory care only has access to a tv room and in a secured area. It feels like a warehouse of residents with memory care. It seems the staff get tired of answering the same questions over and over again, so they stop answering the resident's questions. If they feel they can't take care of the resident, they demand to have the resident moved out of the community, this is without preparation. They made sure it was the beginning of the month and then we don't get this money back. The staff did an evaluation and they said they could care for my loved one; however, once my loved one moved into the community the staff said this was too much for us to handle. They ended up kicking my loved one out of the community. I wouldn't let this place take care of a head of lettuce. The residents need sunshine and to get fresh air.

We moved our mom into the memory care unit in [date removed]. We had to move her out in [date removed]. The building is beautiful and everything looked great on paper. The reality was severe staffing shortages and inexperienced workers. One resident assistant in memory care actually said to us "I keep telling your mom what to do, but she can't remember". We would come to visit and find her wearing the same often inappropriate clothing day after day, laundry not done, clothes, shoes, etc all gone missing. The published daily activities mostly didn't happen. The TV or video was the main activity. Residents were left to fend for themselves d/t lack of staff. The staff that was there were working hard as far as we could tell, but significantly lacked support. It was kinda like a day care with no teachers.

The place is beautiful, the facility itself is just incredible we liked everything about it and the people at the front desk are wonderful. However, they have been having serious staffing issues ever since our loved one moved in. The staffing issue is so bad that some residents will go without eating. The staff play favorites and the dining staff is terrible. There is a real lack of communication between the care team and the families regarding any updates with loved ones. Our loved one recently fell and slightly injured themselves, it took the staff an hour to get to them and they never called our family to let us know what had happened.

So looking for respite care for my elderly parent in Benton House of AUGUSta came up,beautiful from the outside. I was informed that not only do they have respite care but I might want to consider perhaps the adult daycare. I let the individual know what the elderly person‘s needs were and it was no problem. The day I go with this elderly patient to the Benton House first time there I get the elderly patient out the car after walking to the front door first. Do you think anyone said you could drive around and let this elderly person who is a retired World War II veteran get out right here? no, and I’m quite sure they saw me. Long story short I walked him in, two days later they said no he doesn’t “look like”the type of person we can take, too many needs....but I told you this over the phone. Due to the unprofessionalism and Im I don’t know attitude from one of the workers I would tell any army veteran that might have limited capabilities to think before you go to the Benton House!

If you truly love your family members, don’t put them in the Blake!!! My father was never washed, his hair was always greasy. He didn’t have any bed sores until he lived at that horrible place. when we brought him home, he had two bed sores. Neglect is the word I would say that describes this place.

When The Blake first opened, I was very impressed with staff and facilities. Soon after my mother was living at The Blake, many staff either quit or were fired. Corporate took over and the kindness and care was thrown out the door with the ones who did care. When my mother was sent for rehab, they would not adjust payment. So I was paying for an empty room with no meal and/or meals. They were more interested in money than the well-being of my mother. After being hospitalized, they refused to take her back and would not even return emails requesting medical information. My mother was went to the hospital on the 25th of the month and did not return. They charged her until the 15th of the following month. More interested in money than care of the elderly. I would not recommend unless you have a lot of money to throw away.
