Presently have my mom living here. Still getting their programming organized. Not enough cognitive stimulation for memory care residents. Caregivers are always running- they need more staff. I think the layout of the building is part of the problem. It was designed to provide the residents privacy but it makes it difficult to efficently give care.

Not recommended

We would not recommend. We were consistently charged for care that my father was not given; like weekly showers, bringing him to the cafeteria for meals, etc. For independent living, it is a clean and beautiful facility, although the meal quality decreased while he was there. For "assisted living", there was no assistance and it was awful!

Sadly disappointed

The Kettle Park facility itself is beautiful. A family friend has been living there for years and says the food is delicious as well. For both of these reasons, I had hoped to move my mother there. My contact at KP was [name removed], Marketing Director. My initial meeting with him was good, but it went downhill from there, for reasons I have yet to understand. I will spare readers all the details of my 8 month ordeal, but let’s just say that any kind of phone call or email back from him was almost nonexistent. The utter lack of communication was unbelievable. The last thing a family in crisis needs is to be ignored. When finally we were able to set up an assessment for my mom, things got even worse. The first time the nurse called to cancel. She rescheduled for the next week and then was a no show/no call. Zero communication from the nurse or [name removed]. I recommend families look elsewhere. We have been pleasantly surprised by the professionalism at other facilities nearby.

Beautiful facility has potential, honest review of our experience with Memory Care

The food is always served to Memory Care cold, no seconds or options. They're short staffed, the coffee is cold, limited food options and tiny portions. They were short a cook and the food came from the Assisted Living side, which they belonged in, but due to short staff they made my loved ones go into Memory Care where they had no activities and no one to enjoy passing time with. It was very horrible for their spirits and down right harmful to their mental health. The activities were non existent, including getting them outside. I will say that the facility has a lot of potential. I really liked [name removed], the person who I worked with the most. Such a kind and gentle soul. The facility is gorgeous. My loved ones would have been so much happier on the Assisted Living side, especially at those rates. I had such excitement of them moving to this facility honestly and am sorry to have to share this also.

Crass Corporate Greed

If this isn't a prime example of corporate greed, I don't know what is. Because my dad died suddenly and unexpectedly, without giving two weeks notice of his departure, the assisted living facility in which he was residing when he died is wanting my sister and me two pay two more weeks' rent. He died on February 22 and we had all his stuff cleaned out of his apartment by the 28th. He was paid up to the end of the month. But because he didn't give notice he was going to die, they want us to pay for two more weeks. I have never wanted anyone to kiss my [profanity removed] so badly as I want Park Gardens to do so. Keep that in mind if anyone around here needs an assisted living facility for their loved one. Shameless corporate corruption that needs to be exposed.

Misleading

The Eagle Point Senior Living community is gorgeous. Drop dead gorgeous. Their room is amazing. It's perfect, because they're on the water, again. The food is good, although my loved ones aren't fussy about food. The nursing staff is scheduled to change the bedding weekly in my loved one's room and they have completed this only twice in ten weeks. I approached a nurse and asked about changing the bedding on that evening, but after she closed the door - she reopened the door, while on the phone, and indicated that they would indeed change the bedding before 8pm that day. I explain to the staff that all they have to do is change the bedding, they do not have to wash it. I was hit. After putting down a deposit, we received authority to change the flooring, so we put in all new flooring that the community approved. After that was complete, we were doing a final evaluation, and they increased the monthly rate, due to medication management and a once a week shower for each parent. So I complete the medication management and the showers, because I don't want them to run out of money. The maintenance staff is amazing. Another staff member went up to visit on her own time. The move was so hard on them, so when they moved in, I went to the community and a staff member immediately told me that my loved ones were lost. They just moved in that day. This was a staff member that told me that they would have a mentor resident that would assist them with the floorplan, and meals, etc., upon move-in, but that didn't happen. My parents were confused on how to navigate the community, because if you want to participate in events or activities, you have to take specific elevators and it confuses them. I was told by the director that if they had to to use financing from a healthcare alternative, other than private, they would have to move out.

My review of Urbana Place

In the beginning things were not good at all. we had issues on top of issues and was constantly having to reach out to get things taken care of. I don't feel like we got the services that we were told we would receive and we always get the excuse of short of staff and this is something that we can not control. There was just a lot of care for my loved one that was being missed.

Beautiful Building, but Care needs improvement

Relatively new facility with a fantastic location on the Fox River. However the care provided is less than stellar for the costs. Each year costs have increased, over 10% in 2021. Turnover very high with care staff & RN, therefore lack of consistency in care & training of staff. Assisted Living needs a lot of improvement in the care, found Plan of Care not followed after repeatedly bringing issues to Executive Director's attention. Good caregivers either leave quickly or are let go.

Landmark's COLD response to resident's illness

My mom, a Landmark resident, was rushed to hospital with sudden illness and didn’t return for several weeks. During that time, no employee reached out to her or family: NO card, NO phone call, NO e-mail, NO visit (contrary to what we were told). Two days after she returned, I spoke for ten minutes to executive director [name removed] , seeking info on outside assistance options. [Name remove] uttered not one supportive or empathetic statement during the call – indeed, she didn’t even mention my mom’s name. I asked her if we could negotiate a small rent credit to offset the meals, daily checks and cleaning that her facility need NOT provide during my mom’s absence. [Name removed] curtly replied that their policy didn’t allow it. Landmark’s insensitivity and inflexibility during a family crisis – which is common in their industry – is only one of our concerns with this facility. The food is below-average, call response times can be problematic and they often fail to heed our requests, even after we repeat them. On five occasions, I requested by e-mail that [name removed] arrange daily checks not to be done at certain times of day. Our request still has not been honored. To be fair, residents are terrific, facility is cozy and staffers properly identified the need for help during emergency, and sought it. Still, overall: a Disappointment – and Landmark would benefit from caring and responsive leadership at the top.

Do your homework before moving in here.

The only good thing I can say about Landmark is that the people you meet in the beginning are very nice and friendly. When you confront them about a problem you get lip service only. . The Food is on the most part bad . Recently my loved ones apartment has not been cleaned on a weekly basis, nor has her bedding been changed weekly. They do not have a lot of activities and they do not seem to get the seniors involved . I would not recommend Landmark at all.

The place was new and clean. The person giving the tour has not given a tour before. She was not able to answer financial or specific service questions. Another turn off was the call button is for emergency use only. Most other places the resident can use it just when they need assistance.

Unsafe, added charges, poor nursing supervisor

We were appalled at the lack of follow through with requests, poor adherence to COVID Guidelines, nurses being dishonest to cover their tracks, poor food quality to name a few. [name removed] was wonderful, some of their aides are excellent but a few are also mean & terrible with the residents. Cost went up every 1-2 months . Dad was able to escape easily from memory care & staff did not even know he was gone.

Like PRISON

My dear 82 yr old friend is in this hellhole and they dont even have a diagnosis yet. They have LOCKED HIM IN HIS "room/cell" so he feels trapped in jail. The nurses are VERY RUDE. I call my friend daily to cheer him up and see how he is doing. A nurse whose name I had never heard called me yesterday and threatened to file a Police Report due to my daily check in calls to my friend. Here is what I am reporting: #1 I am not even in their state nor jurisdiction. #2 I care about my friend very very much. My love for him as a father figure is very established. He calls me family as do I call him. #3 I'm not after his money But I am trying to protect him. We have talked financials often. With my 8 years of experience as a Money Manager/ Stockbrocker at Smith Barney in Ventura, CA. I DONT NEED MONEY. I NEED My Friend TO BE SAFE AND HAPPY. His niece filed a complaint to his [profanity removed] NURSE which is entirely frivolous, unmerited & baseless. After 18 days of forced isolation he wants to go home.
