I do not recommend moving during a pandemic, but moving to a place as well-run, friendly and helpful as The Arboretum Village was an excellent decision for me. I suggest starting a search as early as...

The community at The Shores at Pleasant Hill is very intriguing. The staff did a wonderful job explaining the benefits of the community and their interesting approach to senior living. When a resident moves into a unit in independent living they get to stay in that unit even if level of care changes. If they need assisted living then they stay in their unit and more care is provided as needed. This really helps the residents from having to move and settle in more than once. The community does seem to look like a hospital setting and a little sterile but its for the transitioning approach that they take with the residents.

Very, very nice. However, we want something smaller, this was just very large. They would not give me a copy of certification until a move???? The insurance company required this. Found this to be a strange policy.

We toured The Shores at Pleasant Hill. The person that we met with was very nice, but the facility itself was multiple levels with elevators. Also, everything was digital so I think that would have been harder with the older population.

Nice will put on hold till talk with folks. Thinking Altoona still a nicer location and facilities. Wanted 2000 dollar and didn't feel that the facilities wasn't that exceptional for such large down payment. Person said still would keep us updated without the deposit .looking more in march time period. They are in the process to update floor and felt new painting will spruce facilities.

I took a tour of this community and was shown a "pod" It looked like a 200 sq. ft. room, it had a bed with 2 chairs. I was told the bathroom is attached but I did not like that the room was very small. It also seemed that there was a charge for everything, like for the mail keys and to take the mail to your room if requested. I was not impressed.

If you are looking for independent living community this may suit your needs. If, however, you are considering this for assisted living and or memory care you definitely should first explore the other memory care and assisted living communities in the Greater Des Moines area. This is due to the quality of care issues. The experience turned out to be a less than satisfactory one.

If your senior is in need of transportation through their living facility, or may in the future, I advise against moving them to The Arboretum. The Arb is down to ONE driver for the entire three building complex and has also decreased hours/days of available transportation. When my mother moved in five years ago and she promised excellent options that have dwindled. Expect a hassle when coordinating with a doctor for the small windows of van availability. Want to go by yourself or with a friend to somewhere other than the grocery or doctor? Forget it.

Copper Shores Village is advertised to be more than it is. The activities are poor, the food is horrible, and there is a problems with bullying among the residents. Front desk staff is rarely friendly, and there is a large turnover of staff. The environment isn't too friendly. We expected my mom to be active and having fun there, but she hated it. You get charged a approx $175 more to be on the west side of the hallway, so you can look out the window AT THE LAKE. Totally ridiculous. There is also a problem with cleanliness issues in the dining area. I reported them to the Health Department before moving my mother out of there. I was unable to get into the building on a Friday night after hours, when my mother was having a medical emergency. All calls made to the numbers provided, went directly to voicemail. I do not recommend Copper Shores Village AT ALL. Take your loved one somewhere else.

I didn't like that hardly at all. They basically said we didn't have enough money to live there so we didn't like that. Plus they don't have a pool or a workout facility. I just didn't like the atmosphere there. It's not that friendly.
