It Is Going Well

My friend is doing very well. She has a good environment. The community is excellent and great but they have one downfall. The director of nursing is not able to communicate with me nor follow through with doctor's order and getting some medications. I am disappointed with the way she does show concern in the residents and some of the staff follow her ways. Ellen is a brand new staff and she is very great at following through with anything. I now have a contact to communicate with.

Make Sure Your Explain Your Care In Detail

This is a nice community with a good staff. They are caring for my mother very well here. The staff has been friendly and very helpful. There is always someone around to help. The community is pretty clean and everything looks okay. She does enjoy the activities they offer like the games. She loves the meals they have very good food. If you are looking into care make sure you explain your care in detail to the community so they know everything they need to do.

Nice community with areas of improvement

Overall it was ok. There was never total neglect, but we feel one overnight aid was not sufficient since there were always residents walking around. And we were there quite a bit, sometimes late into the night. We rarely witnessed bed checks even though they were to be checked every two hours. We asked if they kept a log of the bed checks but was told no. Facility was always clean. Front staff was always friendly, and most of the aids, but there were times the aids would just sit watching TV when the residents needed attention, such as changing soiled underwear or clothing. Many times staff could not be found and had to hunt, found them all gathered in the break room. Would be better if they had plastic or melamine plates rather than breakable ceramic plates. Activities were posted but not held. Only activity done was blowing up a balloon and batting it around until it fell on the ground, then it was just left there.

Review for Superior Residences of Brandon

I did do an actual tour for Senior Residences of Brandon. That one seemed outdated a bit. The biggest reason why we did not go that route was because of location. It boiled down to location and affordability.

Bad Experience

Our experience was not great. I would recommend looking for a different place for your family member. My loved one had to go to the hospital and was severely dehydrated - how does that happen in a care facility? I did not care for Superior Residences of Lecanto at all.

We feel good about her being there

The nursing staff there is great, but the administration not so much. However they are currently going through a transition with different management and to add covid on top of that we feel that it is not quite their fault. They have always been good about communicating and the director is doing a great job. They are vaccinating the residents, and the people have just done a phenomenal job with our loved one, they have been really good with her.

Not so greatly happy with SRC, it's not the same as it was when we moved in.

While our mom has been a resident at Superior for some time, we've gotten quite close to the staff and the residents as well. The aids and housekeeping teams are the most impressive and most caring individuals we've experienced and are quite thankful for their dedication and commitment to the residents. They are truly the communities greatest asset. We feel however that they are not actually appreciated (nor compensated) enough for the continuous very full schedule they have every day and for the number of residents they must care for; seems to me that this team would be the most fully staffed, EVERY DAY, and that their input is sought after regarding operations and patient care responsibilities and that their ability to know that they are supported and not pressed for time so tightly to get through their shift responsibilities with so many residents to care for. IF they weren't the team that they are, this could become a serious deficit. The activities planned for the assisted side are somewhat limited and without much variation. Bingo seems to be the highlight for most; special holiday occasions are typically very nice. Birthday acknowledgements are on the calendar but unlike when we moved in, they no longer make a bid deal for the residents on their special day...and goodness knows, they are all up there in age so every birthday is a big day for them and they want and need to be acknowledged and fussed over. The movies on Sat/Sun afternoon tend to be very old and are held inside the one available activity room chairs not comfortable enough to sit through a 90min movie! Perhaps periodic simulated "drive in movie" events upstairs in the big room near the parlor would be fun...let them drive in in their typical mediums, give them the comfy stuffed chairs to sit in, let them go to the "concession stand" for popcorn/soda/candy/hotdogs. [Name removed] is the very best at planning activities; while she was out on leave the residents had way fewer activities.....they need these a lot and they need more variety. Please give [name removed] the reigns again to be able to plan out more grand events (and give her some help!) The food...……...just not great. Of all the benefits they are provided as part of their monthly fees, the one thing those folks look forward to every day is eating well, seriously. The menus look nourishing but the results are only about 80%. A lot of it is cold, overcooked, and often appears like it is either leftovers thrown together or someone's last minute idea. (breakfast however is the very best meal of the day and is consistently great....except the powdered eggs!) Finally, as sad as the reality is, many folks last days and hours of their journey end while being a resident at this type of facility. The residents have grown over time to be prepared simply by nature of their ages, however, they also become very attached to each other. I have a very strong feeling about this that at SRC they need to be considered and some level of a simple memorial needs to be organized for each and every one of them that pass so the residents can have their time to grieve. To this point, people pass quietly and no one "tells" the residents; no one makes a gentle and tasteful announcement to them that this has occurred; they are left to learn about them from the chain of communication between the residents and then nothing else is said nor done for them. Makes me very sad for the residents left behind. While we clearly appreciate the care given to our mom and our family, the continuous changing of the Admin team has had the most negative impact on the residents with the nursing director changing from a consistent certified care manager to nurse managers to LPN's becoming the director, then moved out the door to advance to the corporate offices. There isn't a consistency in nursing care and the admin team has changed so many times, that the folks who move in to the roles don't get to become familiar with the residents and families before they are replaced again. The corporate entity needs to slow down and reinvest their time in listening to these comments, listening to their residents and listening to their aids and housekeepers. Admin is only as good as the people who support them.....support is minimal because there are not consistent Admin folks in place managing WITH the residents. Making this more of a business vs a home is going to be the downfall for SRC.

definitely not enough caregivers. Generally only one attendant at a time. Patients have issues in their rooms and CG need to help them and have to leave others unattended. I have not seen any activity in wing 3 and I visit on different days and different times. Never any fresh fruit or snacks in this unit Beds not cleaned often enough. Nurses are nice.

The Right Community For Dad

I have requested to get updates from the staff and I am not getting them like I would. He is safe and getting the level of care he needs. I like that it was not over glitz and is like a very large home. It has a homey feeling and less Miami. My dad is plain and simple and they fit my dad. It is very nice and clean. It is a place where he feels most comfortable.

Respite, Get Clear Understanding

I think we had a misunderstanding but I explained that my mom needs specific medical monitoring needs. After the respite we found out they were unable to do what was requested, by law. Aside from the issues, the community is very beautiful, clean, and the staff is great. They genuinely want to provide care. I would recommend if it fits.

Mixed experience

We had somewhat of a mixed experience with Oxton Place of Gainesville. It didn't end up being a great fit for my loved one, and the facility seemed to be going through some growing pains. We liked the director, and the staff all seemed friendly, but there we some obvious disorganization. Maintenance issues took a long time to clear up, as they were sharing maintenance staff with another facility. They had a good amount of activities, but since my loved one was higher functioning than most of the residents there they were not really appropriate for him. It wasn't a bad place, but it isn't somewhere I would recommend to those with higher functioning loved ones.

Nice place, in a transitional period right now

I think Oxton Village is a good place overall, but it has been somewhat of a mixed experience for us so far due to some recent staff turnover. The facility itself is very nice, and everyone is always friendly, but some of the care services have been slipping through the cracks during this transitional period.

Superior Residences review

The location is near my home, about 5.2 miles away. This review is in regards to the memory care section. The outside looks very good but I was not able to go back and try out a meal prior to placing her in this location. I understand why after seeing the meals. I have been in a couple medicaid only facilities and the meals are better there. I had a major issue getting the medication she is to take straightened out. After taking in a heating pad initially, it was taken away as there was not an order. I did get an order and they have not found the heating pad yet. I will probable take in another one. There is a lack of discipline among the workers as they play their music and they congregate together and not checking on others who are in their room. The place is clean. There is an activities chart on the wall but all the times I have been in there the only activity is music and trying to get the residences to also sing along. The TV is going all the time.

The reality of assisted living

In our family member's case, this was not the facility for her. She required extra medical care for advanced lymphedema after rehab. Although promised, transportation to a doctor or other specialist was limited to two days per week. And this transportation was provided by in-house personnel (a maintenance man doubling as a transport driver). A nurse to accompany each resident is provided at an extra cost. The condition-specific rehab needed was not available at this facility. By the time the only area specialist was contacted the condition had progressed to severe edema and was unmanageable. I feel that we made the best choice based on the information provided us. The coordination between rehab, ALF, and her doctor was lacking continuity. They were on "different pages" in reference to what needed to be done in a time-sensitive manner to maintain the progress which she experienced in rehab. I believe the disconnect was with the doctor, not either facility. But the outcome proved terminal for our family member.

I toured this facility and wasn't impressed. They were in the process of integrating a new Executive Director. We liked the facility itself, but the layout wasn't good and they didn't offer good activities. There's no reception desk when you walk in, just the nursing station. No common room for the residents to gather or interact. It seemed like most of the residents stayed in their rooms. I actually had a higher member of management verbally tell me that she wouldn't put her loved one in this facility if it were her.

Misleading

Be VERY careful. It is easy to be fooled by decor and first impressions, but don't make the same mistake we did. We found 90% of what was promised was a lie. The residents wander aimlessly, most are sedated and in front of the TV, which is the only offering most days. They lie when they say your loved one can "age in place". Don't believe them. Some of the staff are lovely, but many were outright RUDE and mean. They promise that they "take in an entire family" but that just isn't true. Constant staff turnover, even at the highest levels (as in, 3 directors in 4 months) We, like several other families, pulled our loved one out after she became ill due to lack of care and over-sedation.
