For being under COVID 19, it has been a very good experience

We chose this facility because I thought it would fit my brother-in-laws personality better. He is in a community where there are 3 or 4 suites, almost like a motel set-up. He has a dog so he is able to go out the front or back door, its more private and personal. His cottage is good sized, it has a bedroom, bathroom, living room, and kitchenette, we are happy with the size. He is entitled to one meal a day, and he has not had any complaints about the food. I would definitely recommend Friends Village. I could not ask for anything better for him.

Cannot take wheelchairs. While mom is does not use one yet, I think that might be a possibility in the future and I would hate to have to move her.

Mom seems to like it

Mom seems to enjoy living here very well. She had adjusted quite well and is doing fine. Her living space suits her quite well. She is making some friends and is doing the activities they offer. She has not complained about the food so she must like it. The inside is maintained very they keep it very clean. The outside has sitting areas so in the nice weather residents and family can visit

My Friend Is Doing Well Here

My friend's experience with this community has been a good one. He stays in the independent portion. It is a clean community, they do a good job with the cleaning. Everybody has been very kind and friendly. There are many activities offered. The food is decent and the dining area is very nice. Everything is working out very well for my friend here at this community.

Interesting blend of lovely...

Interesting blend of lovely old central building with assisted care, combined with outlying large apts for more independent residents. In Newtown, not NTSq, downtown, across from library. Dee visited 03/15.

Rent increase

While the rates start out inexpensively as a lure, there is an increase imposed at the start of each new year. Within 15 months my Mother’s rent went up $600/year. Whether it’s worth it or not is personal but for those on a fixed income, it can be quite a hardship and the concerns were met with indifference.

Review for Friends Home in Kennett

My main problem with Friénd's Home is that most of the people here are much older than me. The average age is mid to late 80's.The community would be better for someone older.

Cozy and Comfortable Home

Overall my family member is happy at Friends Home. It's a warm and friendly place. Both the residents and the staff are lovely. She has had some leaks in her apartment. And there have been issues with cleanliness and food service - both related to short-staffing. But other than that, it's a very comfortable and friendly place. They're trying to resolve any issues, so I'm hoping things will get better moving forward. And my loved one is content there.

Not What It Was

I moved into Friends Village in 2019. In the four years I was there I saw the prices go up and the services go down. The powers that be cry poor whenever the residents request improvements, but they can install directional signs and a wifi network.

Excessive price ncreases

The facility is nice, the people are very nice and even the initial costs are reasonable. However, if you or your loved one is on a fixed budget and that is a major factor in your decision, the cost goes up substantially each year. My mother moved in at the end of the year and in January they increased her rent after only a few months of being there. It continues to go up 3% each year. While that may seem standard, the total monthly fee also includes food, so the 3% increase is also on her meals. Please consider this when making your decisions. If we were to decide to move her out after only a few years to something more economical we would lose the buy-in making her first two years extremely expensively. My mother is relatively young and will likely live a long time. It’s unfortunate that the powers that be don’t think long term to keep their residents happy and make them feel valued but instead price them out. Perhaps their plan is to rotate their residents to keep the new resident buy-in fee free flowing. They have us between a rock and a hard place and they know it. Not a good way to do business.

Do not put your parent here!!

Don’t believe the lies that [name removed] (the so called “Director”) will feed you or [name removed] either. This organization is not full of love and friends and compassion. It used to be but since the new director has come in it seems she is more interested in giving her personal friends jobs instead of worrying about the welfare of the residents. Many residents who were living there, now no longer do. This also goes for most of the staff that was originally there. The staff that knew my mom and loved her are gone. When [name removed] is making decisions, it is to flatter her own ego and not in the best interest of the residents. Be careful when putting your parent here! It is not what it is made out to be. My mother used to reside here and loved it but she no longer felt comfortable being there. She said the feel and atmosphere changed and it never felt like home again.. Taking her out of there was the best decision I have ever made!
