The Oaks Manor in Oakland, IL
5.0

We initially feared Mom would not like being in assisted living, but she absolutely loves it at the Oaks Manor. When we do get her out for the day she is always ready to get back. She always mentions how safe she feels being there. The employees go way above and beyond what is expected and genuinely care about the welfare of their residents. Mom can select what she wants to eat, and she is always taking part in some kind of activity or another. I don't think she realized how alone she was staying at home by herself, even with the family calling and stopping by daily. She is as happy and energetic as we have seen her in years. Cannot say enough good things about the Oaks Manor and the great people working there.

I have lived here for about a year and a half. I have enjoyed it immensely. Very friendly people live and work here. I recommend it for people 65 years old and older. We get three meals a day plus snacks. We get activities that are great. We have exercise programs for 45 minutes at least 2 times a week. There is also bingo and occasionally we will get entertainment from the community. That is great and very enjoyable. We have sing a longs and bell choir. During the holidays, the staff is wonderful in surprising us with different kinds of activities that we don't do on a regular basis. We also have someone come in to do chair yoga with us. To me, it is a great place to live. The staff is very helpful.

  • Health care services
  • Complimentary transportation
  • 24-hour care and supervision
Complete guide to nursing homes

Charleston, Illinois

Nursing Homes

A nursing home offers residence to at least two persons who have no family relation to the administrator. A nursing home community offers its residents 24-hour care by on-site nurses. These caregivers offer health related services for people who are unable to care for themselves.

Nursing homes are a convenient and comfy living option for persons 65 years or older, however nursing homes will often take in individuals 55 and above rarely heard of in senior care regarding different care types. Nursing homes are required to provide medically-related social services, nursing and related services, specialized rehabilitative services (treatment for mental illness or intellectual disability), and room and bed maintenance services to residents. Often times persons might prefer to live in a nursing home over another type of community due to a mental or physical impairment that prevents them from easily accomplishing their standard of living. As a resident of a nursing home, you can expect the right to make complaints, have your representative notified about your care, be free from abuse and neglect, and have protections against involuntary transfer or discharge. Examples of amenities and services provided at nursing homes might include personal care (including dressing, bathing, and toilet assistance), meal programs, rehabilitation needed due to injury, disability, or illness, and adult day services . Some services come at an extra cost which can include personal comfort items, a private room, unless medically needed, and specially prepared food.
